Still Waiting On Justice: The Mom Of Late Phylicia Barnes Emerges Seeking Clarity In Her Slain Daughter’s Killing

Months have now passed since the public learned that police authorities had made an arrest in the murder case of Pretty Phylicia Barnes, an honors student from Monroe, N.C. Baltimore City Police allege that Michael Johnson asphyxiated the book smart teen in her half-sibling’s Northwest Baltimore apartment back in December of 2010 while the youth was visiting Baltimore over the Christmas Holiday. Johnson’s trial has since been postponed until January 2013. The public hasn’t heard from the late teen’s mom Janice Mustafa either, for months. The once vocal and tough mom from Chicago, has been silent regarding her child’s tragic story. It seems that the streets have fallen silent also. No one is talking about Phylicia’s story, but Michael Johnson’s up coming trial is almost certain to renew the public’s interest in the case. There were many perceptions shared regarding what may have happened to Phylicia, as people literally played cyber-detective trying to met out details regarding how such a promising teenager had come to such a tragic ending. Many of the facts shared by those who were close to the Barnes Teen in Baltimore, have come under scrutiny. Janice Mustafa has always had issue with Phylicia’s half-Sibling Deena Barnes’ story about what actually occurred at her apartment where the child was staying, and how  her visit resulted in her senseless murder. Mrs. Mustafa has even requested that the Baltimore Barnes relatives of her late daughter only be referred to as half-siblings in any future TPC Blog articles pertaining to her daughter. The request comes on the heels of Mrs. Mustafa expressing that “a real sister would not have put her naive baby sister in harms way”. Janice’s comments refers to a discussion she had with Deena Barnes upon her arrival to Baltimore after Phylicia went missing. In that conversation, Janice says that Deena Barnes admitted allowing 16-year-old Phylicia Barnes to drink alcohol (vodka), and smoke marijuana. In an earlier TPC article Janice said she had a lengthy discussion with Deena regarding her expectations of the kind of supervision she expects Deena to perform while Phylicia was in her care away from her rural southern hometown of Monroe, and long before she permitted Phylicia to travel to Baltimore. Janice also expressed disdain for Deena because she believes Deena allowed her daughter to engage in promiscuous activities for a “ball of laughs”. Janice has always described Deena Barnes as a “Hood Rat” and others as  “wanna be thugs” which includes a  circle of friends that hung out at her party atmosphere apartment getting high, and drinking while smoking pot. Janice also told the world on National Television News Broadcast that, “My daughter was a flower” and highlighting how the crowd that Deena Barnes exposed young Phylicia to was a distinct contrast to the social culture the youth had become accustomed to at home. Additionally, I believe that Janice is privileged with exclusive details outlined in the tens of thousands of discovery documents that Maryland State Prosecutors handed over to Michael Johnson’s Defense Team. It’s in her words, her comments, in every thing that she has said about the Barnes females in Baltimore, along with everyone that were hanging out at Deena Barnes apartment. However, clearly Janice Mustafa is far too intelligent to divulge such pertinent information regarding her daughters murder, if for no other reason other than not to jeopardize all of the work authorities have done so far to get justice for her child. Moreover, Janice made it clear that she wanted to correct TPC regarding an article I recently published about violence toward young females of color. In that article I mentioned volunteers involved in search efforts to locate Phylicia in the months that the child had been missing. I mentioned the Maryland based Guardian Angels as having participated in those search efforts. Janice set the record straight, advising TPC that upon her arrival in Baltimore after she learned her daughter was missing, that one Guardian Angel assisted her family the entire time they were in Baltimore, and the GA she described was a white female who had in fact contacted other Guardian Angels, but no one showed up to participate in the search for her daughter. Janice also stated, “months later is when Strider came on the scene and tried to take credit for something he didn’t do”. Janice expressed concern that organizations are “trying to get a little bit of the spot light pertaining to my daughter’s tragic murder”. I apologize to Janice and the entire Mustafa family for the inaccurate information published in that article. It has always been common knowledge that the Maryland Guardian Angels played an active role from the start in the efforts to locate young Phylicia, but obviously that information was incorrect. Mean while the public won’t have any confusion at all regarding the murder of Phylicia Barnes, as her alleged killer heads to trial in just over 2 months at a Baltimore Circuit Court on a Murder Rap for taking a beautiful, talented, and intelligent child from our midst. Hopefully, Phylicia’s mom and a concerned public won’t need anymore clarity after that. We are still waiting on justice for Simone, with her memory encrusted in the depths of our hearts forever. Justice for Phylicia Barnes.

Three Teen Girls, All Murdered, And No Justice: The Lack Of Media Exposure For A Growing Epidemic Of Violence Toward Black Female Youth In Inner City America

From many communities in our nation from places such as New York, Baltimore, and Stone Mountain the tragic stories of young girls of color falling to violent street crime paints a horrific trend. The scenes are all too familiar, with Coroners carrying away body bags of young black girls who were senselessly murdered at the hands of heartless killers. I’ve covered many of their stories right here on my Blog, but three of the young girls cases (Vanessa Marie Malone, Phylicia Simone Barnes, and Chanel Petro-Nixon) in particular continue to haunt me because their killers have never been brought to justice. Though their cases occurred in separate towns, there are characteristics of these kids which cannot be ignored. All were described by family and friends who knew them as loving, cheerful, popular among their peers, and none of them had ever had any trouble with the law. Considering their cases from a broader perspective it seems that the murders were all isolated incidences within their respective communities. These murders send an alarming pattern which depicts a scary reality that woman are no longer immune from the violence that continue to plague our streets in this country. Some women advocacy groups have raise concern that women of color who fall to violent crime lack exposure from Main Stream Media, and that police investigate their cases differently in comparison to their white counter parts similarly situated in violent crime. The case of Natalie Holloway, who was the Alabama teen who went missing while on a school class trip in Bermuda, who has never been found is a murder mystery that drew a broad international Media Blitz. In murder cases involving black females their cases rarely if ever reach the heights of even just National News Coverage, which leaves many of their families grief-stricken, and many of their cases having never been solved by police agencies charge with investigating their murders. Recently in Stone Mountain, Georgia the murder of a beautiful and popular 18-year-old girl name Vanessa Honey” Malone was slain in a hail of gunfire as she walked in on an alleged armed robbery in progress while visiting friends. Malone’s friends who survived the ordeal gave a suspicious account of the events which led to the youth’s murder to police. Her story has gained momentum in Social Media, but only local News Media has covered the tragic case so far. Little detail has surfaced about what actually went on the night Malone was killed, but it seems that authorities are treating her case as a routine drug-related slaying. Police say they are looking for a group on 3 to 6 African-American males as suspects in her case, and another person that Malone’s friends identified as “Mercy” as a person of interest in the case. Youth within the Stone Mountain community have taken unprecedented measures by organizing demonstrations, handing out flyers detailing her case, and soliciting T-shirts in a quest for justice in the teen’s killing. In Atlanta, the parents of the late Monroe, North Carolina honors student Phylicia Barnes are still waiting on justice in another senseless and tragic murder case that led to the very pretty teen’s body being discovered nude in a Northern Maryland river. The Barnes teen had gone to Baltimore, Maryland to visit with half-siblings over the 2010 Christmas Holiday. Barnes murder case did draw some National media attention after her murder was aired on Nancy Grace, but Baltimore City police advocated for news coverage in the Barnes case while describing her murder “as Baltimore’s Natalie Holloway”. The Barnes case resulted in searches by volunteers from the public, the Maryland based Guardian Angels, and various law enforcement agencies. Strangely, two additional bodies were discovered as a result of the searches conducted for the Barnes youth before she was discovered nude floating in a river. Barnes’s murder just like Malone’s initially began with sketchy details. Barnes (16) was reportedly left alone with males on the day that she disappeared, drawing criticism from the public best described by one followers’s remarks ” a pretty teenage girl left alone with males unrelated to her is not good, not good at all”, and has become a grueling, painstaking, and enduring process that has spanned nearly two years. During the Barnes murder investigation F.B.I. authorities obtained search warrants for social media accounts of Barnes, her sister Deena Barnes, Deena Barne’s boyfriend Michael Johnson, and other males known to have frequented the apartment where the teen was staying while visiting Baltimore. It has since since been reported that the federal warrants were obtained related to nude images of the Barnes youth streaking nude in and outside of Deena Barne’s Northwest Baltimore apartment with Michael Johnson and other males. The shocking facts revealed in the images discovered on Johnson’s cellphone drew a response from the Barnes teen’ mother Janice Mustafa, who had reported in a People’s Champion interview that a child who was friend s with Barnes had told her Phylicia admitted having been allowed to drink alcohol (vodka), and smoke marijuana during several visits to Baltimore. Mustafa told TPC that her daughter was a very modest person who felt uncomfortable undress even in front of her. Mustafa said, “If my daughter is in any of the pictures she must have been completely out of it on something”. The circumstances related to the Barnes murder has resulted in an arrest of Michael Johnson, but many observers speculate that the State’s case against Johnson is highly circumstantial and a conviction is not guaranteed. The State alleges that Johnson asphyxiated the Barnes youth before carrying her body out of Deena Barnes apartment in a 40 gallon container. Police say a witness observed Johnson struggling to carry a large contain in the hallway of the building, moving step by step and sweating profusely. The suspected container has never been found and the state hasn’t publicly established a motive for the youths killing. Police have reported that Johnson (28 at the time) exchanged over 500 text messages with the Barnes teen from June to September of 2010. The Barnes teen had also told an older sibling that Johnson made her feel uncomfortable. The Barnes case was postponed until January while Johnson remains in jail. The state overwhelmed Johnson’s legal team with over 10’s of thousands of discovery documents detailing their case against Johnson. Mean while, The Mustafa family have had to simply wait on justice while the tragic murder of their daughter runs it’s course through the Maryland Judicial process. The Barnes case is the only of the three murders highlighted in this article with potential of having real justice obtained in the senseless murder of a promising teen girl, but as previously mentioned it’s not etched in stone that a conviction will be obtained. However, even with the bizarre sequence of events which led to an arrest in the Barnes murder, National Media Coverage was absent. Lastly, the murder of Chanel Petro-Nixon who was a straight A student has gone unsolved for over 6 years. The pretty honors teen who was known to be an advent church goer, and often spent time in the library went missing on Father’s Day back in June of 2006. The Nixon youth left her home that day to go fill out a job application at a local Applebees, and was missing for four days. A local sanitation crew discovered a unusually heavy load of garbage on a Brooklyn, New York street corner and summoned police. Police discovered the body of a teen girl inside the garbage bag that was later identified as the pretty Petro-Nixon teen. Nancy Grace also covered the Petro-Nixon murder, but her case nor the Barnes case drew an extended media blitz like the Holloway murder did which lasted for years. Cops say leads were minimal in the Nixon killing with almost no credible information from the public. Cops had hoped that Nixons pink & white Retro Air Jordan Nike sneakers and her missing cellphone would aid in solving the youth’s murder. Six years later, and after assistance from the Reverend Al Sharpton, and several America’s Most Wanted broadcast spearheaded by John Lieberman, the Petro-Nixon murder remains unsolved. Years have now gone by without any media coverage, and the case appears to have been dumped into the laps of the teens family to continue the quest for justice in her murder. In all three of these  murder cases the youths were slain as if their lives meant nothing. There should be a growing concern for the entire African-American community that our female children are at a greater risk to violence than they have ever been, and signifying that  black girls could be a victim at any time no matter where they are within the community. The lack of media coverage coupled with seemingly weak investigations by police in many of these murders, we must adopt a proactive stance as a standard to safeguard the lives of our precious daughters. More accountability must be implemented establishing constant communication of their whereabouts when they are away from home and their families. There is a stigma circulating that the lack of Media is directly related to the African-American communities inability to curtail black on black violence themselves. When our daughters fall senselessly to violence it’s with out question our responsibility to end this trend resulting in the tragic ending of not just black female youth, but females everywhere.

“And A Little Child Shall Lead Them”: The Wisdom Behind The Justice For Vanessa “Honey” Malone Movement

Now that many from within the American Public have their eyes squarely centered on the small Atlanta suburban town of Stone Mountain, Georgia in the wake of the senseless murder of 18-year-old Vanessa Marie Malone, a strong youth movement having mobilized to advocate for justice in her killing, and considering how rapid the teen’s case has spread worldwide, the murder case now has people wondering what is so different in Stone Mountain. Violent crimes occur every day in this country without the massive support we see in Malone’s case from concerned citizens who are eager, and unafraid to speak out against such violence. The standard has always been universal within American Culture that no one would dare cooperate or tell what they know, consistent and in concert with a strict street code of silence. Fortunately that’s not how some of the late teen’s peers see it. One of Malone’s best friends has launched a massive effort to spread the word about Malone’s senseless and tragic murder mystery. That’s an extremely bold posture for a young woman living in the “Stop Snitching” generation. Instead of the typical ridicule and persecution which normally follows such an uncharacteristic individual response related to violent crime, Keah Clayton has effortlessly & single-handily ushered Malone’s murder case onto a Word Stage via Social Media. Her efforts have also spurred multiple groups who are in fact mobilizing within the Stone Mountain Community and surrounding areas, with scheduled dates to hand out flyers detailing the murder case. Other groups have began soliciting #JusticeForHoney T-shirts from various online manufacturing sources. The wave on interest in the teen’s case isn’t just isolated in the Stone Mountain community, but rather from distant places as far as California, Arizona, and Canada respectively. With over 120,000 likes to the slain teen’s R.I.P. Honey Facebook page which was set up in her honor, growing daily, it’s beyond reasoning that National Media hasn’t picked up the Vanessa “Honey” Malone murder case. The teen’s case has made it’s rounds on various crime advocacy forums such as here on The People’s Champion Blog, Lipstick Alley, Crime Slueths, and others. News of the case possibly being aired on the Nationally Syndicated “The Breakfast Club” morning talk show in New York City, and possible involvement by Actor Will Smith has been circulating. Needless to say, the grassroots effort by Keah Clayton has sparked an unprecedented Movement against violent crime for her slain friend, and just may set a new standard in community action when young people’s lives are stricken down in senseless street violence. Clayton’s actions depict a distinct sense of bravery, loyalty, perseverance in the face of adversity, and has afforded her praise from followers of the case whom have defined her actions as true love and friendship toward the slain Malone youth. However, societies observation of this case must not rest solely on Clayton’s actions. The entire story must be promoted and utilized as a textbook case analysis to aid in curing the plague of violent street culture impacting communities throughout the country & the world alike. Perhaps this “Movement” by American youth would be best dubbed as a “Movement” against violent culture. The message to our youth must be described as “what will happen when one person says, enough” and stands up for righteousness. In the Bible the word of God as depicted in the Book of Isiah: Verse 6 clearly says, “and a child shall lead”. This scripture was echoed in a comment on the R.I.P. Honey Facebook page by a suspected older relative of Clayton’s. The post reads, “And a child shall lead them, Honey can lead her peers out of the darkness of silence that has allowed for so many of our babies lives to be stolen under a “false sense of street honor” that has done nothing but given COWARDS a place to hide. The only winners in this silence is the criminals.” In many respects our youth are in fact leading the way to usher in a new era of social change and justice. It seems sadly though, that the child leading the way in this instance is no longer with us, but we thank God for a friend in Keah Clayton.

The Vanessa “Honey” Malone Movement: Friends Account Just Doesn’t Add Up In Pretty Georgia Teen Slaying

They say on October 23 around 10:00 p.m. a gang of African-American men dressed in all black broke through the door of their Stone Mountain. Georgia apartment like a scene straight of the wild west, took them hostage, tied them up, and began searching through their home. Then suddenly pretty little Vanessa Malone arrived while this brazen made for T.V. kind of home invasion was in progress. The woman living there, India Smith (age unknown) says she heard the Malone teen enter the apartment through the back. Malone apparently startled by the activities going on, screamed and attempted to flee the apartment. Both smith and her boyfriend Travares Benford said several gun shots followed, and heard Malone pleading for her life as the gun & shotgun toting thugs brought the petite teen back inside of the apartment. Gripped with fear Smith and Benford say they remained tied up while lying inside the tub in the bathroom for an additional 15-20 minutes, beforing Benford untied himself and Smith, and called for help. When cops arrived, they observed both Smith and Benford outside the apartment. The couple told police their friend had been shot, leading them to an unconscious Malone lying on the floor in the rear of the apartment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Malone was declared dead at the scene. According to Smith & Benford the robbers only took Benford’s wallet, and Smith’s cellphone. It’s simply disgusting that a young woman lost her left in a home invasion robbery that only scored a wallet and cellphone for these cowardice perks, That’s of course if you even believe Smith and Benford’s account of what actually went down that night. By all accounts offered by those who knew and loved Malone, who was affectionately known as “Honey”, she was a social butterfly possessing strong social traits that afforded her the ability to interact with just about anyone from a variety of backgrounds, and that’s why many have difficulty even imagining anyone wanting to harm the teen. It’s unclear the extent of which Malone’s relationship with Smith & Benford was, but many people find their account regarding what happened that night as highly suspicious. I’ll summarize my preliminary thoughts on the case here:

I find it troubling that Smith & Benford failed to react with any measure of desperation at all when they became aware that someone was attempting to force their way inside that apartment. Barring the couple being completely asleep, it seems that the couple didn’t react proactively to flee before the thugs entered their apartment. This is simply a normal reaction once people are introduced to a fearful situation. I mean were they not afraid? The pair don’t offer the rationalization that sleeping hindered their reactions and allowed the thugs to catch them off guard (i.e. they didn’t say they were awaken by the men). Their account simply places them in the bedroom awake. Realizing that their apartment setup is not the traditional apartment building design with only one point of entry/exit, this fact heightens my belief that the pair had no desire to leave the apartment in a hurried fashion out of fear for their personal safety. The rear door of this apartment was an option to get out until they could establish what was going on. The cops say they observed damage to the door of the apartment and the door lock. Unless the building was designed with weak materials, common sense tells me that it took some effort to break through their door, and establishing ample time to dial 911 via their cellphones or simply run out of their. I have trouble with the fact neither of them were fearful enough to flee that place. Did they just stand there like a deer in the path of a car’s headlights while the front door to their home was being broken into? Who just stands there while someone is breaking down the front door to their home? The pair say they were in the bedroom when they heard the door being broken down, later own they tell cops that an alleged 4th victim “Mercy” was also there but left the scene prior to the police’ arrival. Where was he when the door was being broken down? Obviously he didn’t flee the scene while people were breaking in the place either. This is completely unbelievable. They are unable to tell cops exactly how many people were actually involved. I am not shallow to the extent that I am unaware that people panic and are unable to remember certain details when face with stressful situations, but they tell the cops 3 to 6 people. Three to six people? I am sorry, and I’m not trying to be anal here, but that’s troubling that the pair described those involved as such. It almost sounds like one of them said 3 and the other said there were 6 people involved. Either way this is highly suspicious to me. They further said the men ordered them to the ground and tied them up, but there was no mention of what the men did to the mystery “Mercy” character. Where was he? Did they tie him up in another room? In fact the pair never even offers an explanation on this point. The say the men took Benford’s wallet and Smith’s cellphone. You mean to tell me this bold brazen group of thugs toting heavy weaponry only wanted a damn cellphone and a wallet? It’s entirely unbelievable that these men came prepared for war, and appeared to only take these items. Did they take anything else while they were searching through the place? What were they looking for? Smith says that she heard Malone enter through the rear of the apartment. I have a problem comprehending how she would know this if she is tied up in a bathtub in the bathroom. I believe Smith and Benford knew this because that’s the way the teen was instructed to come in. I mean, who leaves the back door to their apartment open for anyone to simply walk in at 10:00 at night? unless Malone had a key to the place. Additionally, I believe that the men were lying in wait for Malone after she had been lured to that apartment by one of the other three people there at the direction of the gang of men. They were there for “Honey”, and there is no doubt in my mind about that. Benford says he waited 15-20 minutes out of fear before he untied himself and Smith, then called for help. When cops arrive the pair are both outside waiting for police. This tells me that they already knew that Malone had expired. Your friend gets shot at your place, you dial 911 and stay at there side comforting them until EMS arrive. The 911 operator could have given them instructions on how to best aid Malone until EMS arrived. Instead, these two people simply leave Malone alone dieing on the floor of their apartment. Moreover, Smith, Benford, and the mystery “Mercy” character all survive the ordeal unharmed. Why did they kill Malone? I’ll even offer the benefit of the doubt that Malone may have also startled the robbers, one of them panicked, and may have shot the teen out of fear that she could identify them. But even if you consider that scenario, it’s disturbing that the thugs didn’t make sure none of the others could also identify them. The entire story offered by this couple is bizarre and entirely unbelievable. I also can’t believe that no one in that apartment complex overheard the door being broken into and not call 911. What about the gun shots? Didn’t anyone hear shots fired? Hell if there were shots, I’m sure some one got up to see what was going on and could have called the cops. There was enough time for someone else to have called the cops while Benford was lying cowardly in that bathtub, and they would have already been there when he untied himself. Smith say she heard the men bring Malone back inside. I mean really? Really? You heard them bring her back inside? If your tied up in a bathtub, you may here movement in adjacent rooms, but I find it difficult that anyone placed in a similar situation could describe hearing this. If Smith’s version of events is in fact accurate, this means that the men took time to go outside, pick her up, and carry her back inside the apartment while exposing their identity to neighbors who could eventually be witnesses placing them at the scene. A bleeding Malone would also cause her blood to make contact with the men, and their DNA on her clothing. Not just that though, why would they even care to bring her back inside, and for what purpose? This would mean that the men also had confidence that there was time to conduct their business and have time to escape. This doesn’t make any sense at all.

After considering these facts, I believe that Malone may have been shoot elsewhere and brought to that apartment for the purpose of determining how best to discard of her body. I don’t believe that Malone entered the apartment through the back as Smith describes. Her account isn’t credible nor does it make sense. Malone more than likely was carried through the rear by someone, and the explanation offered was probably fabricated to account for blood leading from outside into that apartment. I have more as further details about her case are made public.

The Vanessa Marie “Honey” Malone Murder Movement & Mobilization Has Began: How The Young Woman’s Friends Launched A Campaign To Find Those Responsible For Her Murder

The Police say they have no leads in a gripping murder case that left a beautiful Stone Mountain teen shot to death in an apartment building by gun toting thugs during a home invasion. Many have cast doubt on the stories offered by the teen’s friends who survived the horrific ordeal, and other friends of the woman have taken matters into their own hands. One of Malone’s close friends, Keah Clayton launched a Facebook page to help police find the teen’s killers. A Twitter hashtag #JusticeForHoney has been also created. The Facebook website has reached over 122,000 likes in just a weeks time, launching the teen’s tragic story into a viral stratosphere on the Internet, and also drawing interest from readers from all over the world. This grassroots advocacy by young people is simply incredible. In the “Stop Snitching” generation, rarely do we see these kind of proactive measures taking in criminal cases of any kind, and more in particular a potential drug related murder case. People normally don’t want to get involved out of fear of retribution from violent criminals, and others within our youth align with a street code which prohibits any interaction with police what so ever. Perhaps in the Stone Mountain case at least, youth have overcome the stigmatization of labels such as “Snitch” or “Rat”. It seems that finding those responsible for killing the pretty teen has taken priority over the normal social code hindering criminal investigations of this nature. It’s clear that our children in Georgia and other surrounding areas are no longer afraid, and willing to stand united for justice in a senseless murder case that look the life of a promising young woman. The Malone killing sparked only local media coverage, but with the efforts of just a few people, her murder has now drawn international attention with TEAMNESSA & TEAMHONEY T-shirts launching a movement to find the teen’s killers, and others offering to fill orders for apparel advocating the young woman’s story. Friends have also planned to meet for a mobilization effort to hand out flyers about the teen’s killing. It’s save to say that the “Honey” movement has been born, and the teen’s killers most certainly will have a very short stint on the run. People are talking about this case and hopefully someone will come forward with information leading to the arrest and subsequent conviction of those responsible for this horrible crime. The woman’s mom Flora King Malone, responded to a post I placed on her daughter’s R.I.P. Honey Facebook page stating “Those who know what happened are not talking, The whole story has not came out, all that is out, stinks. The robbery? Was anything taken besides my daughters LIFE???”, and confirming that even the teen’s own family has serious doubt about details offered by the survivors of the alleged robbery resulting in “Honey’s” murder. The Malone family can rest assured that they are not alone in this quest for justice. With the outpouring of support and concern continuing to grow within the public, perhaps a new trend in the way the American Society responds to the senseless killing of our children has also been born. Described as a social butterfly by those who knew her best, Vanessa Marie “Honey” Malone was slain in a hail of gunfire by heartless cowards for no reason, while others mysteriously survived, and apparently have failed helping authorities piece together what actually happened. My message to our young people embarked upon this course toward justice, keep talking, keep advocating, and don’t ever have fear to do the right thing. Justice for “Honey” Now!

The Wrong Kind Of Mother’s Love: 49 Year Old Woman Charged In Girl’s Killing

In Baltimore children are exposed to violent culture on a regular basis, either in schools or within their homes by relatives harboring weapons in which many of these kids have access to. Back in May of this year a tragic story made headlines as 13-year-old Monae Turnage came up missing. The school loving kid had left her East Baltimore home to go roller skating with friends, but that trip never occurred, and the child ended up dead. Monae was in the home of two male friends who accidentally killed the girl while playing with a loaded rifle. In the aftermath of her slaying the child’s family began looking for her, and her lifeless body was discovered discarded under a heap of trash in a yard of an abandoned row-house, by her 16-year-old brother. When cops initially questioned the 13 & 12-year-old boys Monae had visited, they allegedly told police Monae had left the home of one of the boys. Further investigation into the child’s murder revealed that Monae had accidentally been shot in the chest while the youth were playing with a rifle. The child’s body was then carried out of the home where her killing occurred and place in a yard behind the home, covered with building supplies, and other debris. The shocking details came to surface when one of the youth broke down and began crying while undergoing questioning by police investigators. Another twist surfaced in the case, after the alleged murder weapon was discovered in the personal vehicle of a veteran Baltimore City Police Officer. The cop who was engaged to a relative of one of the youth involved in the child’s killing, was placed on suspension pending the outcome of a criminal investigation by City Police Internal Affairs Division. The news about the possible culpability of a police officer in the teen’s killing prompted Mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake to condemn the officer, calling his alleged actions “despicable”. Months later Baltimore Police IAD declined to charge the officer in connection with the Turnage teen’s killing. Reports later surfaced that the mother of one of the youth involved in Monae’s killing was under police investigation for some role in the child’s killing. Eventually the City Prosecutor’s Office revealed that an arrest warrant had been issued for Veronica Alford (49) for allegedly assisting her son and another youth in carrying the Turnage teen’s body out of her home and placing her in the yard of a neighboring home while the child was still alive. Authorities also say that Alford hid the weapon suspected to have been used in killing the girl inside the Police Officer’s personal vehicle. Upon the announcement of pending charges for her suspected role in the case, Alford turned herself in to city police, and is now being held at the Baltimore City Intake facility on a $500.000 bond.  Some within the public have expressed concerned that charges were dropped against the officer, citing the probability that he had knowledge of the weapon in his vehicle, and may have attempted to cover for the youth responsible for killing the girl. Additionally, an older brother of one of the boys was charged with Child Endangerment & A Convicted Felon In Possession of A firearm. If charges against Alford stick, her role in the death of another teen who was a  friend of her son will further embody how violence is not only cultivated within city youth by their parents & family,  but seemingly simply a way of life for many living in the City of Baltimore. The fact that an adult’s judgement failed all of these kids miserably and allowed the child to be placed in an alley to die is just unconscionable. Much of the criminal activity across the city is predicated on the belief by some that they can easily get away with it. When our children hit a rough patch in life, it’s the inherited obligation of parents to give advice & direction hopefully with the intention to aid our kids in not repeating such mistakes again, and assisting in their overall development into productive members of society. When Monae’s body was placed in that alley she was still alive, and I can’t help but think how Alford would feel had that been her son. A simple call for help may have saved the child’s life. It seems in Baltimore the mentality is that another families tragedy isn’t my problem. Then of course, if the youth had never had access to the weapon perhaps this sad story may have never occurred. Sometimes a mother’s love can be applied improperly just like in this case. In Baltimore the argument could be made that violent youth offenders are often enabled by their parents in the name of a Mother’s Love for their child. A sad commentary indeed!

Monae Turnage (13) was accidentally killed by 2 male friends who were playing with a rifle. The boys and an adult woman carried the child outside of the home and hid her under trash while she was still alive in a neighboring yard.

When Our Daughters Are Murdered: Justice Sought In Pretty Georgia Teen’s Killing

The details in the murder of Dekalb County, Georgia teen Vanessa “Honey” Malone appear sketchy at best. Police say the petite 18-year-old  walked in on an armed robbery at the Hampton Village Apartments on Tree Mountain Parkway in Stone Mountain around 10 p.m. last Tuesday. According to friends of the deceased woman,  they saw a group of between three and six black men come into the apartment with guns, and they were told to get on the ground.  Travares Benford and his girlfriend, India Smith told cops the gang of men broke into the apartment, took Travares’ wallet, and tied the pair up in the bathroom. The cops were told they could hear the men searching through the apartment when suddenly, several shots rang out. The pair told police that Malone had entered the apartment from the rear while the men were already inside. Malone apparently attempted to flee the apartment when the pair say they heard several gun shots. Smith told police she also heard Malone scream and the men bring her back inside the apartment. The pair say they allegedly remained tied up inside the bathroom for 15-20 minutes afraid after hearing the shots. The pair called for help and Malone was declared dead at the scene. The scenario became extremely sketchy when cops were told that another alleged victim of the robbery by the name of “Mercy”, had fled the scene prior to police arrival. I’ve investigated and reviewed hundreds of tragic murder cases just like this one from afar, and I can smell a rat when I see one. This is another sad story about one of our younger daughters falling to gun violence on the mean streets of America’s inner cities. Right out the gate, I must say that the story of these two surviving victims stinks badly. The story begins with the inability to even determine how many suspects were actually involved. They tell the cops that they were forced to lie on the ground and then subsequently tied up in the bathroom. The story is also void of any details related to what the men did to the alleged 4th victim. Was he tied up in the bathroom also? Where was he during their despair? They also tell cops that Malone entered the apartment from the rear after the men were already inside. How could they possibly have known this? I thought they were tied up in the bathroom. Their entire and complete bullshit story doesn’t add up at all. They try to offer the explanation that Malone simply walked in on the armed robbery in progress, and was a victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, a red light goes off for any logical thinking person when considering the facts on their face. Assuming that Malone was killed to insure she could not identify them, the question must be asked why wasn’t the other three people allegedly in the apartment at the time of the robbery killed also? I mean couldn’t they also identify the robbers? The pair never said the men wore mask, and they could readily identify them as being of African-American descent. Mean while, they offer no other rationalization or motivation as to why the men would want to harm Malone. Also, why did the “Mercy” person flee before cops arrived? What was the connection between “Mercy” and Malone? Had Malone come to the apartment to see “Mercy” or was the teen lured there by him and the others for the purpose of her eventual murder? These are questions that simply jump out at an objective observer. I am not buying their “she was in the wrong place at the wrong time” scenario. No one else was harmed in this alleged armed robbery tail. The Police’ initial investigation into this case hint at a possible drug connection. Another alarming and suspicious element in this case is that Malone’s family declined to indicate who she was at the apartment to visit. Just another twist in a strange story that resulted in the lost of another one of our precious daughters. The drug connection in the case is an all too familiar element of a violent crime. The images of this young woman are saddening. She is beautiful, cheery, and has the appearance of innocence. Unfortunately, our daughters are lured to low-lives who’s interest in criminal behavior far too frequently result in their demise. What strikes me the most is the ability of the men to slay this pretty teen as if she was nothing at all. It takes a certain kind of human to kill for the most part, but the lack of compassion for a female while she pleads for her life is simply chilling. The bastards who did this must be brought to justice, and the weak story offered by the survivors is unacceptable. They definitely know more than what they’ve told police. We don’t know everything about this case yet, but I’ll be covering the tragic ending of Vanessa “Honey” Malone. It’s the very least I can do when one of our daughters are murdered senselessly at the hands of violent and heartless killers.

Vanessa “Honey” Malone was murdered October 23, 2012 when friends say she walked in on an armed Robbery.

Cleveland Bus Driver Strikes Female Patron: Woman’s Actions Impacted Public Safety, But Drivers Behavior Was Even More Deplorable

It was a scene straight out of a Mortal Combat video game with sound affects included, when a Cleveland Transit Driver punched an irate female patron, and promptly threw her off the bus like a rag doll. The horrible ordeal was captured on another patron’s cellphone and has now gone viral on the Internet. The incident has garnered national attention with many from the public having replayed the clip over and over again while glorifying the brutality of a young woman at the hands of a male nearly three times her size. As the senseless encounter played out, the woman identified as 25 year old Shi’dea lane is seen engaged in a profanity laced verbal exchange with 59 year old RTA Transit Driver, Artis Hughes. Many witnesses say that Lane was the agitator, but a closer look at the video clip confirms that Hughes was just as irate, vile, and a willing participant in what began as a simple heated argument typically reserved for catty females. Hughes a 22 year veteran of Cleveland’s RTA Transit can be heard threatening Lane with violence. Hughes called Lane a bitch, and said “I’ll bring my daughter up here. I’ll bring my granddaughter up here to whoop your ass”. Lane did not back down and appeared to give the elderly man as much as she got. The verbal dispute escalated with Hughes telling Lane to shut up and began insulting Lane by insulting her appearance. “Look like somebody then sliced your face up” is what he said. That comment grew laughter and excitement from other young female patrons who seemed entertained and eager for more, as their boisterous outburst of laughter from the crowd hit a nerve for Lane, who appeared to become embarrassed, and set her off on an even more intense offensive. Lane then approached the driver while he was allegedly operating his transit coach in motion and engaged him in some fashion, physically (that part of the incident isn’t fully visible in the clip). According to witnesses and Hughes, Lane allegedly grabbed Hughes around his throat, and exp-orated (spit) in his face. Hughes is seen getting out of his driver’s seat, slowly walking toward Lane, and saying repeatedly, “your going to jail now”.  Hughes then struck Lane with a vicious left uppercut that should have rendered the young petite female unconscious. Hughes promptly grabbed the woman and literally threw her off the bus onto the street and began throwing her property off as well. The audio of the clip depicts how suddenly and quickly the mood of onlookers changed to shock, disbelief, as they began to chastise Hughes. One woman could be heard saying “that’s a female”. Hughes defended his actions be saying, “If she wanna be a man, I’m going to treat you like a man”. When Lane got back on the bus in retaliation, Hughes could be seen with both of his hands wrapped around Lane’s throat choking her. Other patrons intervened and got the physically superior Hughes off of Lane. Lane who was visibly distraught, tried to fight back. Hughes grabbed Lane by her hair in a manner often seen when two woman are fighting. It wasn’t a pretty scene at all, and although Lane perhaps probably bit off more than she could chew when she engaged Hughes physically, the driver’s actions were excessive, and portrayed himself in what some men call bitch like. For the record and purpose of my commentary, I will admit that Lane’s act of exp-orating on Hughes is disgusting and would have angered me to the point of hostility also. However, Hughes a supposedly trained professional is mostly at fault in this incident, in my opinion. Further investigation of this story revealed that Hughes didn’t believe that Lane had money to pay her fair. He wanted her off the bus but Lane eventually did pay. How the incident escalated from a dispute over bus fare resulted in the brutalization of a black woman at the hands of a black man, is completely bewildering. I can explain my thoughts better with this summarizing of the incident:

Artis Hughes was in fact a 22 year veteran of the Cleveland Transit Service and should have had practical experience in dealing with irate or disruptive patrons. Once Lane paid her fare the dispute should have terminated. From what little we could see within both Hughes and Lane’s characters, they both appear to be strong minded individuals. However, Hughes is charged with maintaining control of his coach as well as the responsibility and the safety of patrons riding with him. In this case the young patrons who laughed and became a heckling galley, is just as much responsible for promoting the incident to it’s escalation of violence. Common sense tells me that Hughes more than likely became embarrassed by the comments from a sharp tongue Lane (Momma always said a woman can do with her mouth what a man could never do with his hands). The patrons on the bus (probably silly youth) ignited the eventual outcome that resulted in violence. Hughes is greatly at fault for not defusing the hostility. Once Lane paid her fare, he should not have engaged her in dialogue any further unless it pertained to his job. Hughes allowed his pride to get in the way and that’s when his thong reared it’s filthy and nasty head. Hughes encounters all walks of life everyday driving the bus, and Lane should have been nothing more than a routine part of the job. She paid her fare so keep it moving. The real truth is that Hughes clearly suffers from the “fuck the public” disease which he has acquired over the years from countless spats just like this one with unruly and irate patrons. Hughes was a walking time bomb as job related stress finally took it’s toll on him. Not just that though, Hughes failed to follow protocol when he allowed himself to engage a patron in an unprofessional capacity. Calling people names like bitch, and threatening to have your family come on the job to whoop their ass is undoubtedly a major violation for most work places, and most certainly on jobs where your an official functioning in a public safety capacity. People say that Lane deserved what she got and that very well may be true, but Hughes was a participant, and just because your driving a bus doesn’t mean that someone won’t tear off on your ass for running your mouth. A man his age should be well aware of how women react to being called a bitch. In some respects, Hughes got just what he deserved for being stupid enough to agitate an irate bus patron. He is lucky she only spit on him. She could have stabbed him, which has been the case in many instances with bus drivers like in New York City. Hughes’ actions place the patrons on his coach in great risk. He appeared to be a distracted bus driver when he was arguing with Lane while his coach was in motion. In fact, those hecklers on that bus are probably completely unaware just how much danger they were in. Moreover, Hughes could also be charged with assault along side Lane. Once Hughes stopped his coach, he could have stepped off of the bus and called the police. He wasn’t in any danger at that point. Lane had retreated, and any self defense claim Hughes makes will only fall flat. It’s clear that Hughes wanted revenge for being expat-ed on and choked. He allowed his pride to cost him his job. Regardless of the volume of people who sides with Artis Hughes in this incident, as a black man I have serious trouble digesting the level of violence Hughes enacted upon this woman. Our society has become so consumed with problem youth that we have allowed ourselves to be void of sound judgement in times of adversity, and we result to violence to resolve conflict by default. The argument could be made that the behavior of some adults is a direct result of violent youth behavior. I am challenged comprehending the mindset of a seasoned adult male who find it necessary to strike a woman. I could understand if Lane had some sort of weapon and Hughes or a patron on his coach were in eminent danger of serious bodily harm or death. That wasn’t the case here and he should be prosecuted along side Shi’dea Lane. Although I feel Lane’s actions arrived at a criminal level, I have traveled transit buses also, and I have first hand knowledge of running for the bus, getting on and trying to pay my fare without falling down while the bus is in motion. Why didn’t he give her the opportunity to gather her fare? I am curious what he said to her to send her in such a rage (something about food stamps, implying she was poor probably was the culprit)? Hughes could have stopped the bus and called police at any time during lane’s disruption, just like most transit operators do. Hughes failed to do that and welcomed the senseless violence that resulted. Who allows themselves to lose their job over a person they don’t even know in a situation like this. I have no compassion for him losing his job. As for Shi’dea Lane, she’s 25 and still learning. The below interview shows she has already learned a valuable lesson putting her hands on a man. Artis Hughes should have known better and is a complete disgrace to black men everywhere. One day he’ll put his hands on the right person’s daughter and perhaps he’ll get a lesson in hard knocks himself, even at his age.

Their Actions Were Vicious And Violent, But Some Say Perhaps Just Poor Decision Making By Young People: The Making Of Young Black Thugs In Inner City America

It was all captured on video when 6 teenage girls repeatedly pummeled a defenseless mentally challenged woman, in what police say was an unprovoked vicious attack, and then posted on Facebook as if the entire ordeal was a big joke. The crime occurred in a Philadelphia suburb of Chester, PA. The young girls continuously struck the woman who could be seen with her hands and arms wrapped around her head in an attempt to protect herself from a pack of savages. One of the girls even beat the woman with what appears to be a shoe, in an extremely disturbing video that has outraged many whom have seen the clip. The onset of broadcast yourself social networking sites like Youtube and Facebook, has scenes like this one providing online entertainment for a blood thirsty public which encourages crimes of this nature. Though such behavior is escalating among our young people, the most disturbing fact in many of these cases is that the children’s parents are their enablers, whose actions or lack there of are the primary source from which such violence, viciousness, and lawlessness originates. This couldn’t be more evident as an aunt of one of the Chester teen suspects attempted to downplay the girls action by characterizing the incident as poor decision-making. The evidence in this case could not be more clear that the delinquency of these children derives from poor parental guidance more than likely harvested in a culture of violence, neglect, and exacerbated by relatives who step forward with bold audacity to support kids whom have done egregious wrong to others. I am not a Pastor, a Social Counselor, and nor am I naive. I am completely aware of the unbreakable bond between parents and their children. However, child rearing is not a new commodity, and the responsibility of children’s actions have never left the doorsteps of parenthood. We will debate socialism within various sub-cultural groups until the end of time, but society as a whole has long-established standards for civilized behavior. Unfortunately, in the modern world many of our young people have never been taught the distinction between civilization and barbarism, and they are headed on a course toward self-destruction far greater than heinous acts have ever been committed upon any other culture of people in the history of mankind.  Many have offered the excuse that the plight of black youth primarily arrives from broken homes with single parenting, lack of opportunity, poverty, and continued emasculation by the white ruling class. I can’t dismiss some of these arguments as invalid or not having merit, because in many instances some, if not all of the premises that I describe are in fact factors which impact black youth living in the inner cities of this country. Our existence upon these shore have been a complete upheaval and there is no way of getting around that. If we consider the history of African-American people in this country, we can not escape the realization that violence has never aided in uplifting our people, and to comprehend the constant violence now bestowed upon ourselves, especially our young people, it is not only counter productive to our survival, but rather  an urban genocide designed specifically for our eventual and complete annihilation. The Chester case depicts the complete disrespect that young people have for adults. Children who can find humor in the gang beating of others simply for fun is very disturbing, but beating a 48-year-old woman denotes a serious and alarming disconnect between kids and parental authority. How has the black community arrived at such a Plateau of social despair? The kind of violence demonstrated in this case was once reserved for young males unable to properly resolve conflict by resorting to violence in a pseudonym representation of their true character or macho display of testosterone, but now we see a growing number of young woman engaging in violent acts that exceed the common school yard cat fight. There are those who argue that these are just kids or little girls and should not be measured by adult standards, but part of the learning process for our young people must be responsibility. Kids that harm others by committing adult crimes must be treated as adults. This case has no place in the juvenile courts and they should be punished for their violent and vicious behavior along side adults who wanted to live their lives as thugs. If we truly want to curtail the culture of violence that permeates black youth culture, we must set the bar and standard high for those who break the law and think it’s cute or funny, if for no other provocation but to make an example for other youth aspiring to be young black thugs in America.

The Phylicia Barnes Story: Psychics Gave Undetected Early Lead In Honor Teen’s Demise In Which Some Details Have Since Materialized As Fact

Long before most of us within the public following the tragic story of pretty little Phylicia Barnes discovered that the child had perished, there were Psychics following the case who chatted in online forums, and offered clues that have since materialized. One of the most interesting perspectives that I recall was a psychic who said she saw a large bridge connecting two bodies of land. The comment was made after she tapped into some sort of sensory perception from para-psychological forces or influence related to the Barnes Teen disappearance. The comment holds tremendous credibility now that Barnes was actually found murdered at the Conowingo Dam in Northern Maryland. When viewing the Dam, it’s chilling  when considering that parties with such abilities outside of natural or scientific knowledge in a  spiritual realm had actually given us such early,  precise, and distinctive clues related to what actually happened to Phylicia Barnes. The comments were made in January of 2011, long before the Barnes teen was found dead. I have since been trying to locate the forum in where the comments were made, and I promise to bring the thread here for all to view once I locate it again. Also, there were other psychics who describe a scenario where Phylicia was being held captive in a dark desolate place, and described with gory detail the manner in which the child had suffered in her final hours. Those comments raised eyebrows as well, because even the Chief of Baltimore’s Police Department had stated early on in the Barnes investigation that he believe the child or her body was more than likely being moved around. His comments came after tips from the public surfaced citing various locations around Baltimore where the child could possibly be found. All of those tips were declared unfounded. Information from the public caused police to initially convey that Barnes may have been abducted. The psychic who chatted about the case seemed certain of what her para-psychological insight was telling her, but there is even more that tends to offer a closer look, and reveal just how accurate the psychics just may have actually been. If we review the comments tweeted by Danisha McIntosh again, we see a potentially disturbing sequence of events:

Danisha’s Tweets

B3uteful–1831. Crying all crazy Friday, January 28, 2011 4:13:53 PM via twidroyd (original)

B3uteful–1832. Stop making all that noise outside my dor Friday, January 28, 2011 4:13:16 PM via twidroyd (original)

B3uteful–1833. It s trapped at the dam . Please don’t pull the lever Friday, January 28, 2011 4:12:28 PM via twidroyd (original)

The Conowingo Dam in Northern Maryland: Where the nude body of Phylicia Barnes was found, and possibly the location Danisha McIntosh was referring when she tweeted, “It’s trapped at the dam.

The tweeted comments appear to be referencing crying and loud noise near and around Danisha’s door or close to her location at the time of her tweets. The comments are also made in a seemingly general fashion, but are explosive when we add the initial tweet that refers to a dam, being trapped, and not pulling the lever. It’s been widely speculated that Barnes may have actually been alive in late January of 2011.If that is the case, then Danisha may have had knowledge regarding her whereabouts, and never told the cops about it. The psychic visioned the child being held captive and Danisha’s tweet seems to confirm this. Danisha’s tweets supports this possibility in late January of that year. I am convinced that the crying and loud noise her tweets describe are related to Phylicia Barnes. Her tweets refer to something being trapped at a dam and less than a minute she describes the noise and “crying all crazy”. This perspective is extremely compelling and it’s highly doubtful that Danisha’s tweets were coincidence. It’s very possible that young Phylicia Barnes was alive and held against her will just as the psychic had described. Also, other details offered by psychic insight depicted the place in which Barnes may have been held captive was in an extremely warm place. There are tweets that lean toward this possibility as well. Tweets by Johnson family members on the day that Phylicia went missing are very interesting to say the very least. Hours after Glenton Johnson, Michael Johnson, and possibly others tweeted while driving in the Rolling Road area, Glenton makes a comment that may also support psychic revelations:

Johnson Tweets

12-28 3:24 pm Glenton tweet Hot as shyt in here
12-28 3:31 pm Kevin Johnson Tweet Watch wat u tweet. “the man” is watching.. lok
12-28 3:32 pm Glenton tweet @Chocolatewastd I told yu my fone was dying
12-28 3:35 pm Glenton Tweet My battery bout dead, useless as fone, #pos
12-28 3:38 pm Kevin Johnson Tweet See @Lil_Senca thats my muthafuckin nigga (flaka
voice)

On December 28, 2010 Glenton tweets about how hot it was at his location. His tweet is followed by a warning from Kevin Johnson to watch what you tweet “the man is watching”. It’s no doubt that “the man” he is referring to is the police. It’s uncertain where Glenton was at the time, but many have suspected his involvement in the Barnes killing, and other tweets referencing whooping a female is highly suspicious and very well may have been refering to the Barnes teen. More importantly though, why did a tweet about heat conditions draw a warning comment from the older Johnson male? Clearly the Johnsons had concerns that they were being watched and Kevin Johnson believed Glenton’s tweet may disclose what ever they were attempting to conceal. The other tweets were just as informative because Glenton appears to be indicating he is cutting off his phone in code. The praise Kevin gives him highlights and supports my perspective here. So, again we have another clue that may have been offered by a psychic related to the Barnes case. The child’s mother even believes that her daughter was alive in late January. After reading the comments by Danisha, Janice Mustafa told TPC during an interview that she believes Danisha McIntosh tweeted about her daughter. Janice said that’s just how her daughter would have reacted, crying uncontrollably, especially in a fearful situation. The mom’s comments adds even more interest into what psychics have said about her daughter prior to her being discovered dead. Another aspect of the case points to an establishment owned by the Johnson’s family in which authorities believe the child or her body may have been held. I won’t disclose the location of the property, but it’s believed that the location may contain forensic evidence surrounding the Barnes killing. I am sure like most following the case , the revelations offered by psychics during the early stages of the Barnes murder investigation were met with complete skepticism, but looking back at much of what they said about the case appears to be the most compelling and accurate perspective offered. Their insight went undetected and clearly were the most accurate account offered by anyone regarding what happened to young Phylicia Simone Barnes.
