Prosecutors Unseal Indictment In Barnes Teen Murder: Cops Say Johnson Strangled The Child And Transported Her Body In Large Container

Michael Johnson is the man Baltimore Police believe allegedly killed Phylicia Barnes, and then transported her body out of a Northwest Baltimore apartment.

Just days after Baltimore Police took Michael Johnson into custody and charged him with the murder of 16-year-old Monroe honors student Phylicia Barnes; state prosecutors unsealed the first degree murder indictment against him. For the first time particulars of the case against Johnson were made public. Cops say the pretty little girl died from asphyxiation at the hands of Johnson at the Northwest Baltimore apartment where the studious teen had been staying with her half-sister over the Christmas Holiday in 2010. The details were disclosed during Johnson’s Bail hearing on Friday April 27, 2012. The court denied bail for Johnson citing he poses a threat to society, especial those he is close to (more on that detail later). The hearing revealed other details as well, and the state said it believed Johnson carried the child out of the apartment in a large container. Early on in the investigation TPC reported that Johnson had allegedly been seen by a neighbor struggling to carry a large container in the hallway of the building where the child was last seen. Bryan Barnes, the late teens’ older half-brother made these facts known during an interview here on TPC. Barnes also said that police cadaver dogs lost his kid sister’ scent just footsteps away from where Michael Johnson’s car had been parked earlier on the day Phylicia went missing. The public had wrestled with how the child was either led or taken from the apartment unnoticed, but apparently the cops believe someone did in fact see something that day, and the container Johnson was carrying had the body of Phylicia Barnes inside it. It will be very interesting to see the state’s entire case along with the rest of the evidence they believe they have which incriminates Johnson in this murder case, because the eyewitness account of him struggling with a large container is mere circumstantial. After all, he was moving out of the apartment and the state must demonstrate other compelling evidence that more than likely, Johnson was carrying the Barnes kid in that large container. Also, the state revealed other disturbing details about the case. Prosecutors say that Johnson had text messaged the Barnes teen over 500 times during the months leading up to her planed Baltimore visit. They say the child confided in an older sister stating, “I don’t like the way he looks at me”. That information had already been made public and its common knowledge that the teen was concerned after one of the volume of males who frequented Deena Barnes’ apartment, made a pass at her. We now know that the child was talking about Michael Johnson. The state didn’t reveal which older sister Phylicia raised these concerns with, but it’s just disturbing that the child wasn’t snatched out of Baltimore when it was known Johnson was texting the 16-year-old child. At the very least Deena Barnes should have been aware if for no other reason but to inquire about the hundreds of text Johnson made to Phylicia. It just seems that another missed opportunity occurred that would have enabled the girl’s siblings to get her away or limit her contact with Johnson. More importantly though, if Deena was involved in the streaking incident when Phylicia took off her clothes and ran around nude with Michael and other males, it probably wouldn’t have matter if Deena knew about the text anyway. Much of the state’s information thus far is compelling, but they must prove murder to make the charges stick. Calls intercepted by cops in which Johnson discussed moving to another country that doesn’t have extradition authority to the United States, just maybe the kind of evidence that seal Johnson’s fate in this case. An audio tape disclosing such a conversation in open court would be extremely damaging to the defense. Jurors would more than likely take note of such details, solely based on the mindset that an innocent person wouldn’t have to flee to territories out of the reach of the American Justice System. Moreover, Johnson himself must be aware that very damaging evidence against him exist, and the earlier comment in this article describing the judge’ concern that Johnson would be a danger to society especially those closes to him, tends to imply that some of his own family and friends have made damaging statements against him, and the judge may feel that Johnson would retaliate against his own clan. It seems as if the wall of silence has already begun to crumble in this senseless tragic ordeal.

Finally an arrest, Rest in Peace Phylicia, We all prayed for this day…

    • STRAWBERRYJAZZ says:

now we ALL must PRAY with ALL our MIGHT to send deena’s AZZ to trial for her whore house and wild LUCID sex behavior and distributing alcohol and drugs to a minor she’s the primary person of interest who’s responsible for Phylicia Simone’s demize.  she must PAY for her starting the domino effect by dangling her baby sister’s nude body to a vicious wolf whom she had already known and very much so aware of his perverted appetite

How does Deena feel now hearing of the 500 messages? So da playa planned to screw every Barnes woman in that apartment since he knew Deena was a fool with no morals? My heart goes out to the Musafa family because these details must be heartbreaking and explains why Janice wants Deena’s hands in cuffs as well. So why did MJ murder his so called “baby sister?” Why he never had the urge to murder Deena??? She wasn’t gorgeous, intelligent and YOUNG enough?  Most around me think Phylicia made a threat MJ knew would stick with evidence!!! Remember the jury will see evidence we won’t like did Phylicia respond to any of those messages (I don’t see her fliritng with him)? Did Phylicia come back to B more because she assumed MJ was gone (break-up) out of the apt because he made her feel uncomfortable? I wonder how many conversations Janice is remembering where she might have sensed Phylicia didn’t want to stay with Deena because I wouldn’t have slept on a tacky couch in an apt loaded with thugs but she came back to B more to see family she genuinely wanted to get to know (Harry, Bryan etc.)!!!

I agree with the masses. When I visited my daughter in college and she didn’t answer her cell in her apt or I didn’t answer mine in the hotel alerts (I joked she has 15mins before I call Nancy Grace! haha) went out so why no one found it odd Phylicia’s cell went silent early is unexplainable? Oh I still haven’t forgotten Deena didn’t call Janice when Phylicia went missing. I think MJ knew the laziness of the Barnes sisters (Deena/KB) and bought time with lies and sending fake msgs from Phylicia’s phone.

To Bryan Barnes I applaud you wanting to do something positive (joining police force) in Phylicia’s memory but I have to be honest too many B more family members entangled in police department. I’d prefer you go somewhere else or wait until MJ gets sentenced!!!! People need to remember how this affects The Mustafa family. Too much “media” selfishness here in B more!!

RIP Angel!! Justice is on its way…..

  3. Rayvelle says:

Just not convinced that MJ killed her, stuffed her in a bin and then dumped her in the river. There is definitely something missing with this picture. I don’t know any of the people involved in this case. Something is definitely unsettling about the theory. Let’s start with Motive. I’ve heard the sexual angle. So how does that result to murder? What was the trigger for such anger and rage? Over 500 texts were exchanged , that means both ways. What could they possibly talked about?
Yes we all want justice, that includes any and everybody that was involved should be prosecuted. Logically, this just doesn’t add up. I am sure that if MJ starts talking , we will know what really happened. Maybe Deena did know about the 500 messages. Maybe that’s where the jealousy, degrading w/ streaking, alcohol and drugs came in. Just me thinking ….
    Justice for Phylicia!

  4. STRAWBERRYJAZZ says:

ok Rayvelle lets look at it from this angle, say for instance that when the streaking and nudity had taken place, MJ is closely radaring all of Phylicia’s body parts that he couldn’t wait for the opportune to pounce on that tender and beautiful body because of what deena had allowed her baby sister to indulge in such LUCID behavior while she visisted.  deena waass a hater towards her little sister undercoverly and she purposely left her little sister alone fo freebies to all those HOOD-RAT NUGGA’S in other words “go  for what you know!”  kelly and I meaning deena, we will just turn our heads as if we are blind, deaf MUTES “we didn’t see nothing, we didn’t hear nothing and we don’t know nothing!”  Yeah right! OKaaaaaaaaaaaay…………….
