The Vanessa “Honey” Malone Movement: Friends Account Just Doesn’t Add Up In Pretty Georgia Teen Slaying

They say on October 23 around 10:00 p.m. a gang of African-American men dressed in all black broke through the door of their Stone Mountain. Georgia apartment like a scene straight of the wild west, took them hostage, tied them up, and began searching through their home. Then suddenly pretty little Vanessa Malone arrived while this brazen made for T.V. kind of home invasion was in progress. The woman living there, India Smith (age unknown) says she heard the Malone teen enter the apartment through the back. Malone apparently startled by the activities going on, screamed and attempted to flee the apartment. Both smith and her boyfriend Travares Benford said several gun shots followed, and heard Malone pleading for her life as the gun & shotgun toting thugs brought the petite teen back inside of the apartment. Gripped with fear Smith and Benford say they remained tied up while lying inside the tub in the bathroom for an additional 15-20 minutes, beforing Benford untied himself and Smith, and called for help. When cops arrived, they observed both Smith and Benford outside the apartment. The couple told police their friend had been shot, leading them to an unconscious Malone lying on the floor in the rear of the apartment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Malone was declared dead at the scene. According to Smith & Benford the robbers only took Benford’s wallet, and Smith’s cellphone. It’s simply disgusting that a young woman lost her left in a home invasion robbery that only scored a wallet and cellphone for these cowardice perks, That’s of course if you even believe Smith and Benford’s account of what actually went down that night. By all accounts offered by those who knew and loved Malone, who was affectionately known as “Honey”, she was a social butterfly possessing strong social traits that afforded her the ability to interact with just about anyone from a variety of backgrounds, and that’s why many have difficulty even imagining anyone wanting to harm the teen. It’s unclear the extent of which Malone’s relationship with Smith & Benford was, but many people find their account regarding what happened that night as highly suspicious. I’ll summarize my preliminary thoughts on the case here:

I find it troubling that Smith & Benford failed to react with any measure of desperation at all when they became aware that someone was attempting to force their way inside that apartment. Barring the couple being completely asleep, it seems that the couple didn’t react proactively to flee before the thugs entered their apartment. This is simply a normal reaction once people are introduced to a fearful situation. I mean were they not afraid? The pair don’t offer the rationalization that sleeping hindered their reactions and allowed the thugs to catch them off guard (i.e. they didn’t say they were awaken by the men). Their account simply places them in the bedroom awake. Realizing that their apartment setup is not the traditional apartment building design with only one point of entry/exit, this fact heightens my belief that the pair had no desire to leave the apartment in a hurried fashion out of fear for their personal safety. The rear door of this apartment was an option to get out until they could establish what was going on. The cops say they observed damage to the door of the apartment and the door lock. Unless the building was designed with weak materials, common sense tells me that it took some effort to break through their door, and establishing ample time to dial 911 via their cellphones or simply run out of their. I have trouble with the fact neither of them were fearful enough to flee that place. Did they just stand there like a deer in the path of a car’s headlights while the front door to their home was being broken into? Who just stands there while someone is breaking down the front door to their home? The pair say they were in the bedroom when they heard the door being broken down, later own they tell cops that an alleged 4th victim “Mercy” was also there but left the scene prior to the police’ arrival. Where was he when the door was being broken down? Obviously he didn’t flee the scene while people were breaking in the place either. This is completely unbelievable. They are unable to tell cops exactly how many people were actually involved. I am not shallow to the extent that I am unaware that people panic and are unable to remember certain details when face with stressful situations, but they tell the cops 3 to 6 people. Three to six people? I am sorry, and I’m not trying to be anal here, but that’s troubling that the pair described those involved as such. It almost sounds like one of them said 3 and the other said there were 6 people involved. Either way this is highly suspicious to me. They further said the men ordered them to the ground and tied them up, but there was no mention of what the men did to the mystery “Mercy” character. Where was he? Did they tie him up in another room? In fact the pair never even offers an explanation on this point. The say the men took Benford’s wallet and Smith’s cellphone. You mean to tell me this bold brazen group of thugs toting heavy weaponry only wanted a damn cellphone and a wallet? It’s entirely unbelievable that these men came prepared for war, and appeared to only take these items. Did they take anything else while they were searching through the place? What were they looking for? Smith says that she heard Malone enter through the rear of the apartment. I have a problem comprehending how she would know this if she is tied up in a bathtub in the bathroom. I believe Smith and Benford knew this because that’s the way the teen was instructed to come in. I mean, who leaves the back door to their apartment open for anyone to simply walk in at 10:00 at night? unless Malone had a key to the place. Additionally, I believe that the men were lying in wait for Malone after she had been lured to that apartment by one of the other three people there at the direction of the gang of men. They were there for “Honey”, and there is no doubt in my mind about that. Benford says he waited 15-20 minutes out of fear before he untied himself and Smith, then called for help. When cops arrive the pair are both outside waiting for police. This tells me that they already knew that Malone had expired. Your friend gets shot at your place, you dial 911 and stay at there side comforting them until EMS arrive. The 911 operator could have given them instructions on how to best aid Malone until EMS arrived. Instead, these two people simply leave Malone alone dieing on the floor of their apartment. Moreover, Smith, Benford, and the mystery “Mercy” character all survive the ordeal unharmed. Why did they kill Malone? I’ll even offer the benefit of the doubt that Malone may have also startled the robbers, one of them panicked, and may have shot the teen out of fear that she could identify them. But even if you consider that scenario, it’s disturbing that the thugs didn’t make sure none of the others could also identify them. The entire story offered by this couple is bizarre and entirely unbelievable. I also can’t believe that no one in that apartment complex overheard the door being broken into and not call 911. What about the gun shots? Didn’t anyone hear shots fired? Hell if there were shots, I’m sure some one got up to see what was going on and could have called the cops. There was enough time for someone else to have called the cops while Benford was lying cowardly in that bathtub, and they would have already been there when he untied himself. Smith say she heard the men bring Malone back inside. I mean really? Really? You heard them bring her back inside? If your tied up in a bathtub, you may here movement in adjacent rooms, but I find it difficult that anyone placed in a similar situation could describe hearing this. If Smith’s version of events is in fact accurate, this means that the men took time to go outside, pick her up, and carry her back inside the apartment while exposing their identity to neighbors who could eventually be witnesses placing them at the scene. A bleeding Malone would also cause her blood to make contact with the men, and their DNA on her clothing. Not just that though, why would they even care to bring her back inside, and for what purpose? This would mean that the men also had confidence that there was time to conduct their business and have time to escape. This doesn’t make any sense at all.

After considering these facts, I believe that Malone may have been shoot elsewhere and brought to that apartment for the purpose of determining how best to discard of her body. I don’t believe that Malone entered the apartment through the back as Smith describes. Her account isn’t credible nor does it make sense. Malone more than likely was carried through the rear by someone, and the explanation offered was probably fabricated to account for blood leading from outside into that apartment. I have more as further details about her case are made public.
