Janice Sallis-Mustafa the mother of murdered Monroe, N.C. Honors Student Phylicia Barnes, reemerges after the anniversary of her daughter’s disappearance and sparks new perspective in Phylicia’s killing.
As the one year anniversary of her daughter’s disappearance approached just a few months ago, Janice Sallis-Mustafa stopped posting comments in social media regarding her child’s murder case. Its well understood that such a time would bring more grief upon a mother and a family who lost a loved one so tragically and senselessly. In Mrs. Mustafa’s absence from social media, public interest also dwindled, and it seems that no new information regarding the pretty honors student murder case is available. I caution the public not to give up hope just yet. Recently, I published an article discussing this exact topic related to the lack of interest here on TPC, in social media in general, and revisited some important factors in the case.
In a TPC article published February 28, 2012, I discussed Tweets by Danisha McIntosh (dubbed by the public as the “Twitter Girl”) which has always peaked the interest of followers of this murder case. Many of her comments which occurred on the day or around the time that young Phylicia Barnes went missing weren’t quite clear. The public became suspicious of Danisha’s potential involvement in this case, when her January 28, 2011 Tweet, “its trapped at the dam. don’t pull the lever”, were revealed. It’s a no brainer for anyone with an ounce of common sense that the Tweet was telling, considering she was best friends with two of the males questioned by police in the Barnes case, and the fact that the Tweet referenced a dam several months before Phylicia was found in the Susquehanna River near the Conowingo Dam. When the public first learned about the Tweets, it was shocking, disturbing, and led many to believe that the case was drawing near a conclusion.
It has always been my personal belief that the “Twitter Girl’s” comments were the most solid piece of information that at least the public knew about related to who may be responsible for killing Phylicia Barnes. Janice Mustafa has recently began venturing back online and she sent me an email in response to a December 2011 email (indicates just how long she hasn’t been online) thanking me for the work I have been doing on her daughter’s case. When Janice read the February 28th article she emailed me again, in apparent disbelief. Janice highlighted a statement from the article: “In fact one of her tweets appear to depict her mocking a female “crying all crazy” as if she had no compassion for the person’s obvious distress”. I was discussing comments made by Danisha on Twitter. When Janice read that portion of the article she instantly became alarmed, and conveyed to me that she “believe that Danisha was talking about Simone(Phylicia Barnes)”, “because that’s just what Simone would’ve done started crying uncontrollable especially in a fearful situation”, the mother said.
A mother knows her child and getting Janice’ insight about that particular tweet has opened an entire new can of worms. If Danisha was in fact tweeting about Phylicia Barnes then it is extremely revealing. This would mean that Danisha herself was in fact present during the time that Phylicia was encountering some form of distress. Why would she make a comment about someone “crying all crazy” if she wasn’t there to witness it herself? This perspective is thought-provoking especially when we consider some of the other bizarre tweets made by Danisha around Phylica’s disappearance. For instance her tweets on December 28th, 2010, the day Phylicia went missing, now begins to paint an entirely different picture. Danisha’s Tweet on 12/28/2010 at 6:20 p.m. reads,”Looking out my window, I just see another day”, and was retreated by Dorian Carpenter 40 minutes later at 7:00 p.m.
At first glance the tweet appears on its face to be just a random thought, but putting Danisha’s other tweets into perspective, it’s clear that the tweet had some hidden meaning behind it, and that’s just what I conveyed to Janice Mustafa. I told Janice that I suspected Danisha was trying to convey to Dorian that she could handle what ever happened to Simone or was trying to shed her conscious about something. To expound on my perspective here, later on 12/28/2010 at 11:10 p.m. Danisha tweets to Dorian again: “Do I have your back? That’s what it seems =happiness (only if it’s true)”. Here it seems that Danisha is responding to an inquiry by Dorian for Danisha’s support about something. It makes you wonder if Dorian was attempting to solicit the old “I was with my girlfriend” alibi, in an attempt to preempt any suspicion of his possible involvement in what ever happened to Phylicia Barnes. Also, Danisha’s “it’s trapped at the dam. don’t pull the lever” comment has a very sarcastic tone to it. The tweet in mt opinion seem to suggest her having a heartless and uncompassionate demeanor about Phylicia Barnes’ apparent demise.
Moreover, why was Danisha even tweeting about the dam a month after Phylicia’s disappearance? Was Phylicia’s body recently placed at the dam around the time she made the tweet in January? Was Danisha simply revisiting what she already knew about Phylicia’s killing? The answer to either question most certainly will rest at the doorsteps of Danisha McIntosh. However, this new perspective may potentially not only fuel Danisha McIntosh’s possible direct knowledge about the murder of Phylica Barnes, but it points us back to earlier reports that surfaced during the initial phase of the investigation. In the beginning it was believed that Phylicia may have been moved between various locations as the cops searched for the child after receiving tips from the public. Information sent to TPC from the public depicts the exact scenario and may explain why Danisha was tweeting about the dam a month after the disappearance of Phylicia Barnes.
On January 11, 2011 Crimesider 48 an affiliate of CBS News published an article about authorities preparing to conduct a mass search for the child at a Maryland State Park. The article in part reads, “Now police are focusing their search on Patapsico State Park, west of Baltimore, reports CBS affiliate WJZ. “Through the investigative process, information has been developed, and Maryland Natural Resources Police are conducting this search at the request of the Baltimore Police Department,” said Sgt. Arthur Windemuth” (Read Full Article). On January 12, 2011 a “Johnson clan” affiliate by the twitter username “Dub Dillenger” tweeted, “well just don’t let it sit there, move the dam thing”. I am convinced that he was talking about the body of Phylicia Barnes. The planned search was highly broadcast on local television, and it’s too coincidental that he made such a tweet one day after the search was made public. It’s also way too convenient that he just happens to be a member of the “phLLFthyboiDub” crew (a self-proclaimed gang of friends all associated with the Johnson family).
The tweet is very strange, and then Danisha is tweeting about a dam 16 days later. This perspective forces us to revisit earlier reports when the investigation first began. Those tweets by the “Twitter Girl” are very crucial pieces of information and at least from my personal perspective, are a potential entry way into solving this entire case. I am not alone on this perspective. Janice Sallis-Mustafa says, “I do believe that it’s a strong possibility that some of Simone’s blood is on Danisha Mcintosh’s hands from hearing about her tweet thoughts. I hope that she didn’t involve herself in such horrific acts towards another young woman of her junior just for the sake of love and devotion the likes of Dorian Carpenter. She has sold her soul, poor child of self ignorance, for the love from another instead of loving herself. Poor Thing “Danisha Mcintosh.” You are empty inside. You have really paid yourself cheaper than a .69 cents pair of sneakers made in another country. The sad part is that she has no clue of what she has involved herself in for someone like Dorian Carpenter.”
Janice has always felt that Dorian was in fact one of the males attempting to come on to Phylicia, and perhaps Danisha’s cold-hearted demeanor throughout this tragic ordeal feeds the theory that she herself saw Phylicis Simone Barnes as a rival to her relationship with Dorian Carpenter. The “Twitter Girl” is very much in the scheme of things in this murder case and it continues to be exposed.
