What is a Nigg’as Mentality?

To first understand exactly, the term, “A Nigga’s Mentality, allow me to trace our culture back to the slavery era.   In the early 1600’s people from Africa were forced into places like the United States, Brazil and other parts of the world.  When the white slave traders laid eyes upon us they referred to us a Negro, or Niger as it means black in Spanish.   Around the early 1800s, the term Nigger was then associated with having a derogatory connotation used and created by the white slave traders, the white people who sold and purchased slaves.  During that timeframe, the word Nigger was also used in sentences like, “come here dumb Nigger,” or “Nigger, what are you doing?”  Blacks didn’t have personal names associated, like John, Sue or Lisa, rather the word nigger was used in a way in which to call or belittle black people.

If you are reading this story and you are of African American descent, it means one thing in particular to me.  It means that your people who crossed the Atlantic Ocean through the Middle Passage, who were forced onto slave ships, raped, brutally beaten, branded and tortured did in fact survive.   They survived being hanged, beaten with whips, mutilated and for what?  Three-digit homicide rates in places like Philadelphia, PA?   What it means is that our people survived for you.  It means you are of strong and determined genes.  You originate from Kings and Queens.  Survivors! To hear and see the destruction we face today saddens me because I know that many people who need this book or any book for that matter will not opt to expand their knowledge base.  It also means those of us who can break the vicious cycle have turned our heads and backs on our brothers and sisters still caught up on the chains.  It means that those of us who are out here fighting and assisting are tired and need help.  It also means that some of us have lost hope.  We must do more for these people.  A dear friend of mine always says, “No one is safe until we’re all safe.”

If you are of non- African-American descent and are reading this book, I need for you to understand that not all Black people are bad people and in fact there are far more good hearted and hard-working Black people than the ones who are committing crimes and lending themselves to nonsense or have an “I don’t care mentality,” are lazy, trifling and any other negative prejudice one may have about Blacks.  We have too many great leaders and average Black people who have contributed greatly to this country and beyond.  It is on our backs, blood, sweat and tears that this country was built and please don’t ever forget that tidbit of information.

With that being said, and for reasons that are not totally understandable by many, although sociologists and theorists will argue otherwise, there are some that have fallen by the wayside, through the cracks and have adapted this Nigga mind-set where it’s all about self and not us as a people.

Having the mindset of a Nigga is plain and simple.  If you have an “I don’t give a damn,” attitude about anything or anyone because “I have been wronged in life,” it is more than likely you have a Nigga’s Mentality.

I will allow you to take this simple test to determine if you have or know someone that has a Nigga’s Mentality.  Chances are, you know of someone or you are in fact, a person who shares these ideologies.

Do I have a Nigga’s Mentality?

1.      You proudly claim and boast that you’re a Nigga

2.      You aspire to be a criminal

3.      You don’t take pride in yourself or your community

4.      You refer to your kids as Niggas and other harmful names

5.      You’d rather rob, steal or kill someone rather than work for a paycheck

6.      You encourage your kids to sell drugs or perform illegal activities

7.      You’ve been released from jail only to return to society to be a better criminal

8.      Excluding religious reasons, you have more kids than you can afford, yet keep having more

9.      You have no goals nor want any

10.  You illegally own a handgun and you kill people, showing no remorse

Thinking of one’s self, or aspiring to be negative is not only harmful to self yet its harmful effects can be seen throughout the community.  When I am your neighbor and you throw trash in front of your home, have loud music blasting in your front yard with no consideration for me at 1:00 AM or have your kids running up and down the street until the early hours of the morning, that hurts us all.

Hurt People; hurt People.  I learned this quote a few years ago and although it’s simplistic, it succinct.   Let’s take the example of a wounded animal.  When I was about seven or eight, I witnessed a neighbor’s dog get hit by a car.  The dog’s leg was shaking profusely, he was foaming from the mouth and he was probably about to die. The dog’s owner reached over to comfort the dog and or pick him up and the dog attempted to bite the hand of his owner.   The same goes for some people who have been called names growing up.  They sometimes lash out.  Now this is not to say that some hurt people will inevitably lash out to hurt everyone they encounter but chances are, if a person is hurt, there is a chance they will want to inflict that same type of pain on others.

Calling your child harmful names, physically and verbally abusing them on a continual basis may lead to damaging effects, which could even result in further destruction.

If you are not your child’s role model, yet you think the professional basketball or football star qualifies for this position, you are sadly mistaken.

As people, we have been granted special gifts, our children, who are our most valuable resources; our community, to which we call home; and our freedom, which was is our inalienable right.  The Bible, Luke 12:48, says, “To whom much is given, much is required.”  Simply put, this problem of violence and destruction did not begin overnight and it will not end with any one reading this book.  We will see an increase in support when we collectively address this problem.

The Phylicia Barnes Story: The Late Teen’s Brother Bryan Barnes Ready To Disclose Personal Perspective On Murder Case

Bryan Barmes and Kelly Barnes talk about the murder of their baby sister Phylicia Barnes during a WBTV interview

Recently a rare public appearance in Social Media by Barnes Family Members in Baltimore surfaced here on the TPC blog, but that dialogue was a very short stint. After a few comments by Russell Barnes the biological father of Phylicia, and Bryan Barnes her half brother, their comments have since fallen silent. I have been in contact with Bryan via email and he has conveyed to me his personal interest in discussing particulars about the case “from the beginning”. We have seen some comments by him in the past during television interviews and have heard him speak on radio broadcast. Bryan perhaps is most notedly remembered for his public comment, “We don’t care who killed Phylicia. We want justice even if it’s a family member”. That statement has since been the source of continued discussion as public suspicion continues to grow surrounding the events that led up to the tragic ending of young Phylicia Barnes. Many believe that Bryan’s comment tends to infer his own personal belief that members of his own family may be directly responsible, complicit, if not at the very apex of the killing of his baby sister. Since there has been essentially nothing heard from the child’s older half sisters, I am sure that Bryan’s insight on the investigation and his personal perception would be welcomed by the public. Chiefly, there are many inconsistencies in the accounts offered by his sisters during a “Peas In Their Pods” Blogtalk Radio broadcast in which Bryan was also in attendance. However, as one caller stated during the show, Bryan wasn’t there at the time his kid sister vanished. It would perhaps be very insightful to hear his opinions regarding what he thinks may have happened. Bryan’s posture has been one of solidarity related to suspicion that has surfaced pertaining to Deena, Kelly, and even his dad Russell Barnes’ potential involvement in this murder mystery. It is completely understandable that a family member would adopt such an approach simply because people inherently do not want to acknowledge or accept the culpability of loved ones in the heinous act of killing another loved one. I think that Bryan honestly believes in the innocence of his family and I anticipate that being his take on the case when I get the opportunity to speak with him directly. I think that we all would be relieved if that perspective materializes upon the apprehension and subsequent conviction of whoever is responsible for the killing of this beautiful, intelligent, and promising teenager. Moreover, though the public suspects his family, everything that has been learned about this case via the media, Phylicia’s Baltimore Family comments, and those of her grieving mother, it leaves much to be desired in proving that her sisters were not involved. Images recently published here on the TPC blog confirms at the very least, Deena Barnes may have lied to authorities about events that led up to Phylicia’s disappearance. Deena’s denial that she exposed her baby sister to drugs and alcohol has been met with extremely compelling images that depict the culture that she condoned by those who were known to frequent her apartment. The eyewitness account that Phylicia was seen walking to get food during the onset of her disappearance has been proven to be false, we have yet to establish the source of that information, and it appears that who ever gave that account to the Police may have deliberately done so to either create deception or throw the cops off during the very critical hours of investigating the child’s where abouts. The unexplained texting verses directly speaking with Phylicia on Decembet 28, 2010, coupled with the fact that neither Deena nor Kelly actually went by the apartment until Deena arrived at 6:00 p.m. that day is simply outrageous after we consider the nature of what actually may have been going on there. Also, the affiliation and close ties that ranking Baltimore Police Personnel have with individuals who may be potential suspects is just another disturbing element of the case that has yet to be disclosed publicly by authorities investigating this murder. So, I applaud Bryan Barnes once again for his personal efforts in continuing to seek Justice for young Phylicia, and I await the opportunity to exchange discourse with him while unraveling some of these very challenging dilemmas he face.

To Catch A Killer: More Images That Reveal The Culture Of Those Who Were There When Phylicia Barnes Went Missing

Warning: Blog Post contains nudity and images unsuitable for children, and also maybe offensive to viewers.

When I interviewed Janice Sallis-Mustafa regarding the tragic murder of her late daughter Phylicia Barnes, she shared with me the horrible thoughts that played over and over again in her mind what may have happened to her child. One of those thoughts was Phylicia possibly being lured to Baltimore and sacrificed for a drug debt by sex crazed drug dealers. She was concerned that the volume of young men in and out of Deena Barnes’ apartment probably was related to drug solicitation by some of those we have learned were actually living there. Images posted in a previous Blog entry show the Johnson clan engaged in a party like atmosphere with booze and marijuana, but up until now there hasn’t been anything to substantiate drug dealing. We continuously saw William “Krazy” Johnson with cigar leafs and others smoking blunts as they posed for pictures. On William Johnson’s “xChill xWillx” Twitter page we see that perhaps the drug solicitation theory isn’t without merit. Clearly there is marijuana packaged for distribution along side boxes of cheap cigars and a laptop:

Bags of suspected marijuana individually packaged for distribution and cigars. The caption under the image on Twitter reads, "Time to get High".

An image displaying about 20-30 grams of suspected marijuana with an individual Swisher sweets Cigar tube, and a smaller portion of the illegal drug depicting preparation to roll up a blunt.

These images posted on Krazy’s Twitter Page doesn’t necessarily mean he was in fact engaged in drug solicitation, but common sense confirms that he at the very least had access to a volume of the drug.  Krazy, his relative, and others were a fixture around Deena Barnes’ apartment and it’s safe to say given the public display of their “pot head” culture, that marijuana also accompanied them. We are all aware of the negativities associated with drug usage and solicitation, as well as the violence that historically has been associated with those involved in narcotics. The drug and alcohol atmosphere that young Phylicia Barnes was exposed to created an ideal situation for violence to rear it’s ugly head and unfortunately resulted in the child’s death. The pictures also demonstrates a bold, careless, and arrogant disregard for the law by Krazy, who apparently is fearless of any potential criminal repercussions related to his public display of illegal drug possession. It’s the very nature of this kind of  ignorance or irregard for the law that suggest Krazy and the entire Johnson clan alike, are capable of just about anything.

Also, back in early July media reports surfaced that Federal Authorities were looking into a possible “child porn” link in this murder case. It was revealed that a volume of pornographic images were discovered during the investigation. There also rumors floating around that pornographic images were discovered on the cell phone of one of the men who was either at the apartment or lived there around the time Phylicia went missing. The below image demonstrates that the individual who may have had nude photos on his cell phone probably was William “Krazy” Johnson:

A nude cell phone image posted on William "Krazy" Johnson's Twitter page. The caption reads, "I took the pic, and the whip cream, and I left".

The image speaks volumes for itself, and gives credibility to a perspective that Janice Sallis-Mustafa theorized may have been a associated with her daughter’s killing. Janice’ “sex crazed drug dealers” theory can only gain fuel when considering the above images. I believe the grieving mom’s argument has been substantiated here, and has  proved her not to be the biter, crazy, lieing, and unstable woman that some have relentlessly attempted to describe her as. Sometimes a mother  just knows some things and I believe Janice hit the nail right on it’s head on this one.

Late Breaking News In Phylicia Barnes Case: Are Arrest Imminent In The Late Teen’s Murder?

Concerned citizens in Baltimore who have been following the Phylicia Barnes Murder case awoke today to headlines in a Baltimore Sun News Article which reads, “State Police: Progress made in Phylicia Barnes investigation”. The story highlighted a public statement from the Maryland State Police, in anticipation of Media inquiries surrounding the approaching anniversary of the teen’ killing,  and the first time that authorities have broken their silence since reports of a possible “child porn” link surfaced back in early July of this year. Though authorities declined public comment regarding the specifics of the murder investigation’s progress, it appears that the killing of Beautiful and Studious Phylicia Barnes isn’t a cold case, but rather tips and information from the public has aided authorities in what ever they apparently have discovered that resulted in the promising teen’ demise. Read full article below:

(BALTIMORE, MD) – Maryland State Police homicide investigators and their partners in the Baltimore Police Department are actively continuing their investigation into the murder of a North Carolina teenager, who went missing while visiting family in Baltimore almost one year ago.

Phylicia Barnes was visiting family in Baltimore when she disappeared on December 28, 2010. Her body was found on the morning of April 20, 2011, in the Susquehanna River near the Conowingo Dam in Harford County. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled her death was a homicide. Investigators have yet to publicly release the cause of death due to the importance of that information to the ongoing investigation.

Detectives from multiple units in the Baltimore Police Department, including the Homicide Unit, were investigating the disappearance of Barnes. When her body was found in Harford County, Maryland State Police Homicide Unit investigators joined the investigation into her murder. This joint investigation has continued since April, with the assistance of multiple other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

No charges have been filed or arrests made in connection with the murder of Phylicia Barnes. Investigators have worked the case continually and progress has been made, although making the details of that progress public at this time could hinder the outcome of the investigation. The work of investigators has included re-interviewing family and friends, reviewing evidence, searching for and analyzing additional evidence, and conducting forensic examinations. Investigators have continued to work with the Harford County State’s Attorney’s Office and have kept officials there updated on the investigation.

Concerned citizens have called regularly with tips and theories for investigators. That information has all been reviewed, analyzed, and investigated. Police continue to urge anyone with information regarding the murder of Phylicia Barnes to contact them immediately. Persons with information may call the TIPS Line that has been established since Barnes disappeared at 1-855-223-0033. Or, they can call the Maryland State Police duty officer at 410-653-4200. Calls may be kept confidential.

Homicide investigators have maintained contact with the family of Phylicia Barnes, both in North Carolina and Baltimore. They have assured family members the investigation is active and ongoing.

In the article State Police Authorities are quoted as saying, “progress has been made, although making the details of that progress public at this time could hinder the outcome of the investigation”. That statement I am sure, was met with absolute joy by thousands who have been clinging to news clips, articles, and blog entries to remain updated about any progress what so ever in this heinous crime. Although this recent public statements appears generic on it’s face, we must conclude that the Police have something that they are continuously working on, and arrest in the killing of Phylicia Barnes has now in fact been confirmed to be imminent.

To Catch A Killer: Disturbing Images May Unravel Lies That Phylicia Barnes Half Sister Told Authorities Surrounding The Late Teen’s Murder

One of the main focal points surrounding the investigation and subsequent murder of Honors Teen Phylicia Barnes has been whether or not the child was exposed to drugs and alcohol during visits with her half siblings in Baltimore. During my interview with Janice Sallis-Mustafa a few weeks ago, she revealed to me that prior to going to Baltimore after learning that her daughter had gone missing, another minor child, and close friend of Phylicia’s poured her heart out, distraught, and crying. The little girl told Janice that Phylicia had shared with her that her sisters had allowed her to drink Vodka and smoke Marijuana during her trips to visit them. Janice said the child was extremely upset because she thought something may have happened to Phylicia, and that she was remorseful for not having told what she knew sooner. Armed with that information, upon Jance’ arrival in Baltimore, she confronted Deena Barnes directly about the child’s account that they had been allowing Phylicia to indulge in drugs and alcohol. Janice has continuously publicly stated that Deena Barnes offered the rationalization that Phylicia only had a few puffs of pot, confirming what the little girl told Janice before she left for Baltimore. That information is crucial to the investigation because Deena has denied the allegations during news interviews, on the “Peas In Their Pods” broadcast on Blogtalk, and to the authorities. More importantly though, the child who gave the account about Phylicia using drugs lived in North Carolina, has never been to Baltimore, and couldn’t possibly know anything about the life style or culture that existed in Deena Barnes’ Northwest Baltimore apartment. It’s very incredible that a child living in north Carolina with no knowledge what so ever about what was going on in Baltimore, could describe with accurate detail some of the activities that the Johnson clan engaged in which are  depicted in the following images from Glenton “Bootz” Johnson’s Myspace Page:

Alcoholic beverages on a table at what appears to be a party with the Johnson clan in attendance

Among the drinks of choice are Vodka and Cranberry Juice which is a popular drink within the African American Community and exactly what Phylicia's friend told Janice Sallis-Mustafa what Phylicia had been allowed to drink.

It doesn’t take rocket science to come to the conclusion that what the little girl told Phylicia’s mother was completely accurate. Although the images doesn’t show a young Phylicia Barnes in them, it’s explosive and very telling that Deena Barnes more than likely told lies to the Police about the activities that she allowed her baby sister to indulge in during her trips to visit her family in Baltimore. Also, it should be said in all fairness that this doen’t mean Deena actually gave a naive Phylicia Vodka what so ever, but it’s highly coincidental that a child 100’s of miles away could describe the kind of alcohol that would be a party by some of the very people that are in fact known to have been staying at Deena’s place, and were actually there the day Phylicia went missing. The pictures probably couldn’t prove that Deena and others contributed to the delinquency of a minor, but it sure does offer a hell of a summation in he eyes of public opinion, and speaks volumes about the character and integrity of Deena Barnes.

One of the other disturbing images on Bootz Myspace page depicts the complete recklessness of some of the people associate with the Johnson males. The below image speaks for it’s self. The baby in the carrier apparently belongs to one of th females in attendance at the party. The alcoholic beverages in the foreground offers a realistic vantage of the level of responsibility by the child’s mother associated with the Johnson clan:

A baby in a carrier is just a coupe of steps away from Cranberry Juice and Alcohol at a Johnson Clan party.

Let’s just keep it real. This mother is a poster child for the Division of Children and Family on how to be a candidate for a DCF Child Neglect case. Just imagine if the adults engaged in this party can display this kind of carelessness for an infant child, we can only imagine how a young Phylicia Barnes faired in the midst of their misguidance.

Drinks and young women appear to be the Johnson’s signature. We know what some of our young people are up to when they are not properly supervised, but we see a true picture of the culture that existed with the young people that Deena Barnes exposed her Beautiful baby sister too:

An unidentified young female who appears dazed and under the influence at a Johnson party.

Another unidentified female who actually appears to be encouraged to drink alcohol probably for the first time at a Johnson party. "Krazy" Johnson (a cousin) and Bootz' baby brother Dorian seated along side her.

Females pose with Dorian and "Krazy" Johnson with alcohol and seemingly under the influence.

Now we know that our young people engage in unlawful activity such as drugs and alcohol, but the point that should be driven home here is that Deena Barnes continuously has attempted to convey that her place didn’t experience any activity of this nature while Phylicia was there what so ever. We now see that that is in fact a complete lie. It’s not convincing that this group of young people would not indulge in these kinds of activity at her apartment, especially considering that we have learned two of these young men actually  lived there with Micheal Johnson and Deena.

When the story firs broke about young Phylicia’s disappearance, News Media reported that Police described Deena’s apartment as a flop house for college kids. In the below image we see several people sleeping on the floor of an unfurnished room. A close examination of some of the clothing they are wearing, it appears to be after the night of the alcohol fueled party. This also gives us an idea of what the apartment might have looked like after the December 27, 2010 party that allegedly occurred the day before Phylicia went missing. This proves that there probably were more people then reported left alone with Phylicia at Deena’s place the morning she say she went to work. Also, we see more Vodka as reportedly had been given to Phylicia in this image:

By the clothing we can identify "Krazy Johnson, Glenton Bootz Johnson, and Bootz' younger brother Dorian asleep on the floor. Also, we see a fifth of Smirnoff Vodka by another person sleeping.

Deena Barnes also denied giving her baby sister Marijuana. These below images reveal that it was at least a part of the culture among the young men that stayed, visited, or either are associated with having been at her apartment. Again, we have to contemplate whether the child who told Janice Sallis-Mustafa about the alcohol and drug usage was actually psychic, because she was absolutely accurate about at least some of the kinds of activities that those around Phylicia were engaged in:

Dorian and "Krazy" posing with a Cigar Tabacco leaf that is used to roll up a Blunt (Marijuana cigar).

Blunt in Krazy's mouth.

A female also in an image with a Blunt

Krazy with Dorian, a suspected minor actually smoking a Blunt.

Some may look at the above images and simply convey that they don’t see anything untypical of young people in American Culture, and the pictures doesn’t prove that they are cold hearted baby face killers. However, the below images are not only alarming, but they clearly illustrate that there is a culture of violence that exist among at least one of the males close to this case:

A picture of a gun in which states on his Myspace page, "I'm getting nice with the Rugger". The firearm appears to be a Rugger .45 caliber with a high capacity magazine (hi cap magazines stores more bullets than typically allowed. Hi caps are also outlawed in the State of Maryland)

Bootz posing with the ruger .45 caliber and what appears to be a ruger 9 mm handgun.

If there were ever any doubt by the public that any of these young men could possibly be complicit in a crime of violence, I believe the young man has cleared up the answer to that question himself by posting such images. I wonder who those weapons belong too, if the cops ever obtained a search warrant pertaining to those guns, and why does Bootz who isn’t legally old enough to purchase or own them in Maryland, have the guns in his possession.  Perhaps we see some degree of fear on the Barnes women part in not exactly being candid with the authorities investigating the murder of Phylicia Barnes. Telling lies surrounding a Capitol Murder, even in the face of fear isn’t excusable. The account of the events surrounding the disappearance and subsequent murder of Phylicia Barnes by Deena is challenged drastically by the above images. The pictures proves that she may have in fact lied about introducing alcohol and pot to her baby sister. If Deena exposed Phylicia to substances, it’s bad, but I can’t believe that those mistakes has caused her to mislead the murder investigation of Phylicia. She is covering something and we all continue to wonder what that may be.

The Phylicia Barnes Story: The Late Teen’s Dad Request The Nation’s Prayers For His Family As 1 Year Mark Approaches

Sometimes as a writer in a quest to bring News and Attention to tragic stories that impact society, we can be insensitive to those who have suffered the most when tragedy has come. In the Phylicia Barnes murder case no one has suffered and endured more pain than Janice Sallis-Mustafa, her husband, and their remaining kids. My beloved Muslim brother R. Mustafa, Phylicia Barnes’ real Dad returned a call that I put out to him. I wanted to have a National Town Meeting on a Nationally Broadcast Blogtalk Radio Show to acknowledge the 1 year mark of the disappearance of their studious child. Brother Mustafa explained to me that his wife and kids have been grieving intently as December 28 draws near. I personally apologize to the Mustafa Family for my selfishness and not considering their privacy at such an extremely challenging time. Mustafa said it seems unlikely that Janice would be emotionally willing to do another National Broadcast, but he did not rule out that possibility. I had not heard anything in National media regarding the pretty little girl’s story and I wanted to keep the case in the spotlight. Mustafa advised me that other News Media has attempted to contact his family on an ongoing basis, but he had to turn off his wife’s cell phone because it was too overwhelming doing this time in which his family is continuing to grieve the lost of their promising child. So, I did provide the necessary information in the event that the Mustafa family decides to speak publicly, but I will not pursue National Publicity about Phylicia’s case at this time. However, Mustafa went on to say that “everything that Janice said is true”, refering to her TPC Blog Inerview and other public statements in the Media. He spoke briefly about the Barnes Family and their dishonesty pertaining to the case. Mustafa said “all of these people who say they loved Phylicia have never been around”. “They have never been at any of her Birthday Parties that I have paid for”. Mustafa seemed agitated by comments that Deena and Kelly Barnes made regarding their relationship with Phylicia. “they say they met her when she was 6 years old and fell in love with her, but where were they up until she was 15”? Mustafa commented on Sandra Barnes recent comments on the TPC Blog about her being the niece of Russell Barnes’ adoptive father. Mustafa said though her comments were factual, “I nor Phylicia ever met that side of the Barnes Family”. He also pointed out that Sandra’s comments depicted how vicious those Barnes family members were that, “She didn’t want to associate with them herself”. Mustafa says that the truth is coming out now. “God is going to bring everything out now”.  Brother Mustafa also talked about today’s youth, and the problems that society faces if adults do not get involved in their kids lives. “Be a good Uncle, Aunt, Brother, or Father, and do something”. Mustafa briefly talked about his life growing up in the west side of Chicago. He said he never thought that he would see places worst then Chicago, but he was shocked when he saw the volume of young women being pimped out and prostituted along North Avenue in Baltimore the night he searched for his daughter. ” When I got to Baltimore and heard Phylicia might be pimped out by some pimp, I drove all up and down North Avenue looking for her”. Mustafa was extremely vocal about the duty of a man. “A man is supposed to protect women not exploit them”. I didn’t want to take much of his time, but as our conversation ended Mustafa said the family’s focus is staying strong, together, and protecting their remaining kids. “That’s my job to protect this family”. Brother Mustafa asked that I convey to my Blog Followers and the nation, to continue to pray for the Mustafa Family as they continue to grieve.

A National Prayer for the Family of Phylica Barnes

Father God come into this place right now. Touch every heart, every soul and all who  loved, knew, and became acquainted with your beautiful daughter whom you’ve called home. We ask that you might bless us all, especially Phylicia’s family members who continue to morn her passing. Give them the strength to continue on knowing that Phylicia Simone Barnes is now in your loving care. Father we ask that you put your arms around the Mustafas and their little babies and guide them to your throne. your throne of righteousness, peace, and comforting. Father we know it’s been a year since this tragedy occurred, but let our hearts not wonder, our emotions spur bitterness, anger, and revenge. For we know that your word teaches us that vengeance is yours. We have not forgotten your promise that you will be with us until the end of our days upon this earth. We know that you are working this murder case and will bring atonement upon those who are responsible. Father we are a sinful people and only against you have we gone astray. Father we have faith and will continue to pray, and worship your name that justice and righteousness will prevail in this senseless tragedy. Father have mercy on the Mustafas. Have mercy on the Barnes family, and father have mercy on Phylicia’s killers. For you have taught us that we must bare forgiveness even for those whom have harmed us. Father embrace us all as we await your judgment on the day that we shall all come to know. We thank you for your blessings, your mercy, and your grace. In your name we pray!

Amen, Amen, and Amen.

To Catch A Killer: Phylicia Barnes Relative Says She Suspects Her Own Family In The Late Teen’s Murder

The Late Phylicia Simoe Barnes

Before the body of pretty young Philicia Barnes was even found and  pulled from the chilly waters of the Susquehanna River, many in the public who were following the case became suspicious of the account that led up to her murder by those closest to the child in Baltimore. The authorities investigating the killing remain tight lipped about new leads, if any, pertaining to who maybe responsible for the child’s murder. Recently, the child’s mother Janice Sallis-Mustafa gave a chilling account of her interaction with Philicia’s Baltimore family that may offer insight into a possible motive in her killing. The mother’s interview sparked a rare public emergence from Phlicia’s Biological Father and Brother in an attempt to refute what Janice Sallis-Mustafa claims she experienced during and after her marriage to Russell Barnes. That attempt failed miserably when Russell made a debut post on TPC Blog exclaiming, “You people are messing with the wrong family” and another comment that indicated that he himself apparently believes he is in “battle”. Also, others chimed in conveying displeasure with Janice publicly speaking out about past family troubles, and seemingly trying to disassociate Phylicia’s killing from Janice’ relationship with Russell Barnes. However, comments made by the child’s brother Bryan Barnes confirmed Janice’ account regarding Russell’s deadbeat dad history. Not only that, but Russell’s comments which had a veiled inference to threats and violence, more than likely qualified what the grieving mom said, to be absolutely credible. Moreover, a recent TPC Blog Poster, Sandra Barnes, who identified herself as the niece of Russell Barnes’ adoptive father, made some explosive comments about her own family, and nearly substantiated much of what Janice Sallis-Mustafa said about her relationship with her ex-husband’s side of the family. Sandra Barnes revealed that when she first learned about Phylicia’s disappearance that she herself became suspicious of her Cousin Deena Barnes. Sandra says she believes “Deena is covering for Micheal  Johnson and his family, if not for her own self”. Sandra made it clear that she believes that they all are complicit in some way related to Phylicia’s murder. She said that she had been taught not to associate with those family members, because “they are no good people”. These comments here on the TPC Blog are probably some of the most damning that we have seen related to public suspicion surrounding the Barnes sisters account about what happened to Phylicia Barnes. For the first time we see a defection from the Barnes clan’ solidarity like public posture related to this case. Sandra Barnes went even further, boldly proclaiming “I’m not scared of none of you bastards”. Sandra called her family members “liars and murders”, but fell short of explicitly naming who those comments were directed toward. Sandra feels that her uncle should have never adopted Russell Barnes. She said, “Maybe everyone would have peace right now” if Russell had not been adopted by her family. Sandra also places blame on russell himself for the character of his other children. In the early stages of the investigation into the murder of Phylicia, Sandra says she went on the “Pray for Phylicia Barnes” Facebbook page and tried to give her theory about the case. Sandra said that the Barnes Family became so agitated with her comments that she was blocked from making post on the site. She believes that her comments hit home and was bringing the focus rightfully on Russell Barnes and his daughters. Sandra expressed that she is grateful that family discouraged her from having a relationship with those family members, and that she feels they may have even killed her. Sandra also said that there was a lot of truth to what Janice Sallis-Mustafa said in her TPC Blog Interview, and she referred to Russell Bares as a “child abuser” and “woman beater”. Sandra Barnes’ comments, though a personal perspective about this tragic case by one person, is explosive and confirms that members of the Barnes’ own family suspect involvement by other Barnes family members in the murder of young Phylicia Barnes, if not at the very apex of this horrific crime.

A Man Called Mumia: A Legacy of Courage And Strength In The Face Of American Injustice

Any black man in America who dare boldly stand up against the oppressive and racist economic and social systems in our nation will pay the ultimate price. We are well aware of the list of courageous men who have fallen as martyrs for their people, as far back as Slavery to the Civil Rights Era in America, and we know that freedom for our people have yet to materialize even in the 21st century. The American Justice System continues to fail her people of color, and the sweltering prisons on these shores are a constant reminder of the modern day captivity which many of our people continuously endure.  For thirty years now a man name Mumia Abu Jamal has been living in a 9 x 12 cage on Death Row in the Pennsylvania Correctional System for a crime that has been proven countless times that he obviously did not commit. His case is so disturbing that he has risen to international fame as the world’s most recognized Death Row inmate or “America’s Last Political Prisoner”. They say his crime was murder in the first degree of a white Police Officer in 1981, but the more conscious ones of us know that Mumia’s crime was his news reporting, and his affiliation with the “Black Panther Party” in his youth. Abu Jamal, an award winning journalist, was a fearless activist who championed the cause of the African American community during the height of racial tensions of the post Civil Rights Era in Philadelphis.  Mumia deemed an agitator, was very critical of Police Brutality enforced by a mobbed up Frank Rizzo Police Department. One night when crooked cops set out to murder one of their own (Officer Daniel Faulkner) who they believed to be a rat for the Feds, sieged the opportunity to pin the killing on Abu-Jamal. With the help of false testimony, evidence and witness tampering, and a sitting judge known to favor prosecution in criminal cases of blacks, Mumia was sent off to the gallows of Pennsylvania’s Death Row for over 30 years. Mumia’s fight for his life ended just a few days ago when Philly’s Uncle Tom DA, Seth Williams dropped the Death Sentence conviction of  Abu-Jamal in favor of Life In Prison after the Supreme Court’s ruling months earlier that declared Mumia’s Death Sentence Unconstitutional. Although his life has been spared, that victory is bitter sweet when considering his murder case file. Mumia has never had so much as a parking ticket prior to the frame up job that resulted in his murder conviction. However the Pennsylvania Criminal Justice System wants society to believe that Mumia suddenly decided to kill a Police Officer. His trial and subsequent conviction were so unfair, that millions across the globe have publicly demonstrated for 3 decades calling for his immediate release. Mumia has battled his conviction through constant appeal to our nation’s highest courts and the merits of many of his case’ appellate arguments mirror landmark cases that set precedent, but have never been afforded or applied to Abu-Jamal’s case. This blatant prejudice has been dubbed “The Mumia Exception”, and is symbolic of America’s Justice System desire to establish example for other black men who aspire to follow in his path. The challenges of Pennsylvania’s Justice System never deterred Abul-Jamal or the efforts of those who fought and cried to save his life in his case, and his ability to capture attention to his plight throughout the world is only shadowed by the wrongful incarceration of Nelson Mandela during the Aparthied era of South Africa. In the coming weeks as Mumia Abu-Jamal is removed from the 9 x 12 cell on Death Row, he will be able to see, embrace, and interact with is children for the first time in 30 years.  We most also realize that this is not the ending, but a new beginning in the battle to free an innocent man. We must ask ourselves if we could have endured his place for so long. Locked up in a cage for 23 hours a day for crimes that amount to nothing more then  his ideology. I for one know I could not have walked in his shoes. Free Mumia Abu-Jamal now!

To Catch A Killer: Female Siblings Of The Late Phylicia Barnes Are Hiding Something About The Child’s Murder, And It’s Obvious

In the past week after a heartfelt and chilling article was published here on “The People’s Champion Blog” highlighting a perspective about the murder of late Honor Student Phylicia Barnes by her mother, we have experienced a rare public emergence from members of the child’s Baltimore Family. In just under 8 days over 6,000 visitors have come to the Blog to either obtain updates about the murder case or chimed in with their own personal perspectives. Although there has been a minimal volume of followers who have expressed support for the Barnes’, there is a growing contingency within the public, and the social media arena that display a continued suspicion of the child’s older sisters account that led up to the disappearance and subsequent murder of Phylicia Barnes. With the Anniversary of Phylicia’s disappearance 3 weeks away there is a Public outcry for justice in this horrific case. Many followers are discouraged that an arrest has yet to be made in a Capitol Crime that resulted in the nude body of a promising and talented teen being discovered floating in a river in the State of Maryland. During the search for Phylicia the child’s Siblings gave a very disturbing interview on a Nationally recognized Social Media Affiliate, “Peas In Their Pods”radio broadcast on Blogtalk. I have listened to the broadcast multiple times, and myself along with others refuse to except the account offered by Phylicia’s Sisters Deena, and Kelly Barnes regarding the particulars that led up to Phylicia’s disappearance. Chiefly, I am outraged by the seemingly amused demeanor of Deena Barnes. Her laughter while responding to questions from the PITP host is unsettling, and depicts her apparent enjoyment of the  attention she was garnering in this Nationally Publicized case.  Her lack of grief was exacerbated with contradictory and unbelievable comments she made while recanting the events of December 28, 2010. Listeners can only walk away from that interview confused as to whether Phylicia was either awake or asleep prior to Deena leaving her home for work that day. Deena is in fact on record as having stated that Phylicia called Kelly that morning to come pick her up, that she and Phylicia were discussing going shopping for skin care products, and that Phylicia was asleep when she left for work. The confusing accounts leaves the door wide open to some theories that the studios child probably had already met a tragic end before December 28.  Deena paused awkwardly repeatedly when questions were posed to her about Micheal Johnson and his relatives that it has since been confirmed actually lived at her apartment. These questionable instances of pausing depicted an obvious loss of focus or bearing on her part, and leads many to believe that her responses were prompt-to and manufactured for the purpose of creating deception surrounding the truth. It has not been publicly established whether authorities investigating this murder case have in fact directed Deena Barnes to avoid commenting on certain elements of the case, but there were other aspects of the interview that the public suspicion has derived from. Deena has publicly stated that Micheal Johnson telephoned her after arriving back at the apartment late afternoon discovering the door wide open, music blasting inside, and Phylicia nowhere to be found. However during the PITP Interview, Deena stated that she arrived home at 6:00 p.m. from work and discovered that Phylicia wasn’t there and began calling around to people in an attempt to locate her whereabouts. Deena also says she called Micheal Johnson to see if Phylicia was with him.  Why would Deena do that considering her purported account that it was Micheal who notified her that Phylicia was missing, and why would Deena Believe that her baby sister would be with her supposed ex-boyfriend? I wonder which account is true. Was Deena advised via a phone call by Micheal Johnson regarding Phylicia’s disappearance or did she return home from work and discover the child missing? Both accounts are confusing and not logical. If Deena was informed by MJ that the apartment’s door was wide open and no Phylicia, then it is explosively unbelievable that Deena didn’t return home or have some one go their on her behalf to investigate the situation. Also, if Deena returned home at 6:00 p.m. as she alleges and discovered the child missing herself, it is even more alarming considering the fact that Deena and Kelly both say they lost contact with Philicia at around 11-11:30 a.m. over 6 hours earlier that day. Moreover, when Deena was questioned by PITP host regarding who reported that Phylicia had been seen walking to get food, she simply stated, “That’s what we were told” without identifying the person(s) who say they saw her. Deena never offered an explanation as to where they obtained that information. The cloudiness of this alleged eyewitness report actually gives tremendous credibility to the child’s mother Janice Sallis-Mustafa’s claim that the account was fabricated by her Daughter’s biological father, Russell Barnes. When Deena was questioned regarding allegations that she gave Phylicia, a minor, alcohol and pot, she denied doing so and stated that she requested a drug test and was awaiting the results. I had trouble understanding Deena’s thought process related to that question, because she wasn’t asked if she used drugs. Why was her response defending her own potential drug usage when the question was posed if she gave it to her baby sister? Why was Deena unavailable for the PITP Interview when the host opened the phone lines for direct questioning by the show’ listeners? Her absence became problematic when a caller rejected a response by Kelly and Bryan Barnes. The caller even stated, “Is Deena around to answer the question, because they (Kelly & Bryan) were not there”. It almost seemed as if it was planned prior to the show airing, that Deena would exit before the phone lines were opened, as the host stated, “Deena” like a cue for her to began making her exit comments prior to direct questions posed from the public.

Kelly Barnes and Deena Barnes half sisters of the late Phylicia Barnes

Kelly Barnes’ comments created suspicion when she was asked if she was at Deena’s apartment the night before Phylicia’s disappearance. December 27, 2010 was also reportedly have been a day when a party was given at Deena’s place. Kelly had previously stated that she was there with Deena and Phylicia baking cookies and watching movies on the 27th. When Kelly was pressed by a caller related to her account, Kelly changes her statement and said she was there on December 26. This almost certainly brings attention to what may have occurred the day before Phylicia was missing, and seems as if Kelly’s recant or memory loss about which day she was actually there, is an effort on her part to remove herself from involvement in what ever happened the day prior to Phylicia disappearing. The fact that Deena and Kelly both admit they last communicated with Phylicia during the late morning hours, that it has been confirmed that at least 1 male was at the apartment alone with Phylicia, and neither of them went by to physically check on their baby sister until Deena’s arrival home at 6:00 p.m. that day is tearfully troubling, sad, and simply legitimate grounds for suspicion of their potential implication and complicity to what ever happened to beautiful young Phylicia Barnes. Their accounts are not logical and their silence is a hindrance to the investigation into the murder of their baby sister. They both are hiding something and it’s obvious.
